When Hitler attacked Kingdom of Yugoslavia, my grandfather (father's father) was mobilised. When capitulation was anounced, his officer said to all soldiers: 'We've lost the war. I must surrender, but you try to escape'.
He succeded. In the shaddow of the night he came home after one week.
Occupation started. No food.
One night chetnicks came on my grandpa's doors. He had to go in the underwear. Chetnicks were looking for two partisans, and people they took had to make noise and to go first. Partisans were found and killed (by chetnicks).
Another time, chetnicks came and my grandfather, grandmother and father had to sleep outside. My grandmother started to shout because they were dirty, but my grandfather said 'Shut up, they gonna kill us!"
One day my grandfather went to Jagodina to sell plum-brandy, and because the night fell, and police hour started, he 'took a room' in one 'hotel'. It's joke, there were 20 people in one dirty room. And then, ratia happened. They took my granfather and the rest men. The mashine-gun was on the bridge. And then, one industrial from Jagodina, foreigner but not German, started to talk with German officer, trying to help the people on bridge. German officer almost shot him, but, on the end, they were left to go.
When partisans and Russians liberated town, my grandfather was arested for a week, i think, and then he was left to go.
My other grandfather, mother's father, was mobilisated by partisans, and fighted in Bosnia. He didn't like to talk about the war.
