a monument in france near pegasus bridge
hello dear veterans
in late 1999 i started thinking about who to raise money for and after a few weeks i decided to raise money for the normandy veterans it took me some good few months to sort things out and compile a list of shops where i could get support with prizes for raffles, and industries to get financial support to which i managed to get very quickly then i had the task of being sponsered by the local people and other organisations i.e r.b.l.,burma star,re-enactment groups e.t.c.to which also was a great success
then i had the choice of doing it in england or france and i decided france would be the ideal place for this ideal sponser and that is to walk from sword beach to gold beach and some other area's of the invasion i included the pegasus bridge not far from sword beach, the total walking distance i covered along with two normandy veterans was48miles(with no blisters hahhaha)and it is something i will never forget and i have many photographs of the event i also have a display of some vehicals soldiers and badges from the in vasion
i would like to finish by saying to all veterans from dunkirk ,normandy to, burma and the, far east and the atlantic convoys and the raf bomber and fighter commands infact all the fighting forces and civillians who took part in the 1914/1939/45 wars thank you so much for what you have done you will never be forgoten with out you we would not be here now but the real heroes are the ones that never came back we owe a lot to them maygod bless you all thank you
