I was born in Grantham in Lincolnshire. I studied at Oxford University and started working as a scientist. When I was 28, I passed more exams and started working as a lawyer.
I was elected as a Member of Parliament when I was 34. When the Conservative Party won the General Election in 1970, I became the Minister for Education and Science.
In 1975, I was chosen as the first women leader of the Conservative Party but they were no longer in power. Four years later, I led my party to victory in the General Election and became Britain's first woman Prime Minister. I was Prime Minister for the next 11 years and won two more General Elections. I was Prime Minister for longer than anybody else in the last 150 years. |
