When I was a child I used to go a place called the German Underground Hospital, that was ... was built by, well, slave labourers. And I remember going there as a child. It's a place that you would play, which seems an odd ... an odd way to describe it, but it certainly was a visitors' site.
And this was ... not long after the war, it was open like this. And I can remember going there and feeling this great sense of something not right - and I was told as a child that people had died there, and actually been pushed into the concrete. And this haunted me. And I tried to find out more about it and obviously asked my mother about it and various people, and no one believed it and nobody said it was true at all.
And then when I was reading ... this book 'The Model Occupation' by Madeleine Bunting, there she had written this evidence. And I thought, 'At last'!
But I didn't come to that until I was nearly forty. So it took all those years, you know ... about twenty five years, to actually pull that together.
