People did personal things like send postcards. I've got a lot of postcards which are family mementos - you've got little messages on the back - that is all part of the family research.
You know ... your family research isn't just clicking on the internet and looking for the censuses and seeing who lived where and all. It is searching the newspapers, and searching drawers, and boxes!
If you'd seen the boxes that I've looked through in the years that I've been at my grandmother's! Because she seemed to put everything into a box, and at the bottom of the box there would be a photograph and you'd take it out and say 'who's that?', 'Oh, that's Uncle so-and-so', 'And so, well, who's he?'. So you'd get then a story from ... from that.
I've been lucky 'cos my grandmother had all this stuff.
