Worcester Warriors made hard work of beating Sicilian side Amatori Catania in the European Challenge Cup.
Amatori Catania 14
Worcester Warriors 19
Try x 2: de Jager
Try: Taumoepeau Try: Horstmann Try: Tucker
The Worcester Warriors were left frustrated and disappointed after a scrappy and disjointed performance against Amatori Catania in their second European group match of the season.
The visitors were put under pressure from the start of the game with Catania immediately attacking their line, but two forward tries from prop Tevita Taumoepeau and number-eight Kai Horstmann restored order and gave Worcester a 14-0 lead which they took into the break.
Worcester started the second half strongly with a third try from centre Mark Tucker and the large band of travelling Warriors supporters were hoping for a high score and a multitude of tries to cheer in the Sicilian sunshine.
It didn’t happen though, as scrappy defence let in the Catania captain and left wing Benjamin de Jager for two length-of-the-pitch breakaway tries which put them within five points of Worcester and led to a very tense last period of play for the Warriors.
