Liberated in Australia

While the 64th anniversary of liberation was marked in Guernsey, ex-pats around the world joined in the celebrations.

While Guernsey was waking up to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the island's liberation from Nazi Occupation the party had already been going for hours for Alan Redwood and his cohorts in Perth, Western Australia.

To mark the celebration Alan and a group of friends who all have connections with Guernsey met in one of the city's parks in the 27° heat for a few drinks and some bean jar, Guernsey gâche and gâche melée.

Alan was a police officer in Guernsey before he and his wife moved to Australia in the mid 1990s and though he was not born in Guernsey he feels a great affection for the island he used to call home.

With such a large number of local ex-pats living in Australia Warren and Kate Barrett thought a celebration would be a good idea and with the help of people like Alan gathered more than 100 people with connections to Guernsey to celebrate the day and they hope to repeat the event in the future.
