Poll Topper wants purse strings

Following the news that Charles Parkinson topped the vote in the South East he declared an interest in the Treasury and Resources ministry.

The South East district saw 13,231 votes cast with 2,256 going to standing deputy Charles Parkinson, 631 votes more than the next highest candidate in the poll.

When asked of his intentions regarding ministerial positions he said, "I want to be minister of Treasury and Resources".

He also said he had no intention of standing for Chief Minister as he was going to propose Deputy Bernard Flouquet for the position.

Deputy Parkinson's view of the election results was that they had "changed the climate" of the States of Guernsey as although most of the current deputies who stood were re-elected there had been a "subtle shift" to the order in which they were elected.

This shift, he identified, had seen more candidates of "the same political colour" as himself elected with the "architects and supporters of Zero-10" slipping down the polls.

Which he saw as being a strong indication support for his policies.
