The University of Gloucestershire's Freshers Fayre offered students an array of societies to join, employers to meet and free stuff to blag. Each of the event's three days was dedicated to a different aspect of the student experience - sadly we missed the freebies of the commercial day but made it along for the Sports And Societies Fayre. Alongside the more traditional pursuits - football, hockey et al - the event showcased a wide range of specialist interests. Touting for members were the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Society, the Kendo Society and the Pro Wrestling Society. Check out our photo gallery of the event: (17 Pictures)
The Big Step To help the freshers settle into campus life, the University of Gloucestershire Student Union has recruited around 60 second and third year students. Identifiable by their bright yellow t-shirts, these indivuals are part of The BIG Step, an initiative run by the university to help new students cope with this major life change. BIG Step volunteers provide information desks at each site and a range of peer support, information and games. | | A big stepper |
Lucy Blackhall, Student Community Action Training & Volunteer Co-ordinator said: "Our volunteers meet, greet and help students settle into their new life, and provide a friendly and reassuring welcome to the University. Everyone taking part in the scheme undergoes training to provide skills that will enable them to be confident in providing advice and assistance. By sharing their experiences of University life, the BIG Steppers have the chance to give something back, and that's a good feeling." More information about volunteering at the University can be found on their website.
