The pale, lilac-pink flowers of this upright perennial appear throughout the summer and into the autumn. Its roughly triangular leaves are covered in soft hairs and look a little like a hollyhock. Sometimes used for medicinal or culinary purposes, the slimy roots can be boiled and made into a jelly to make sweets.
