No Solace For Bond
It's a bad week for Bond. Just days after a British man crashed an Aston Martin on the way to the set of Quantum Of Solace, a stuntman has incurred serious injury whilst shooting a chase scene. Aris Comninos was driving in the narrow, winding streets around Lake Garda when his Alfa Romeo struck another vehicle. Co-driver Bruno Verdirosi was also injured but Cominos bore the brunt of the collision and remains in hospital in a serious condition.

EON Productions have suspended filming while the crash is being investigated. Neither the director, Marc Foster, or star Daniel Craig were present at the time.
Del Toro Helms Hobbit
It's official: Guillermo del Toro will direct The Hobbit. After several weeks of speculation, the Pan's Labyrinth helmer is relocating to New Zealand where he'll stay for the next four years. That's how long it'll take to shoot JRR Tolkein's epic story of Bilbo Baggins and The Ring in two parts. There is no final draft script as yet although it's expected that del Toro will collaborate with the team behind LOTR, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens.

"I am indeed blessed to become a part of the filmmaking community that Peter, Fran and their extraordinary team of collaborators have created in New Zealand," says del Toro. "Contributing to the Lord Of The Rings legacy is an absolute dream come true." Apparently, you don't have to look like a hobbit, but it helps.
McGregor Walks With Angels
Ewan McGregor is in talks for a part in Angels & Demons. That's Ron Howard's prequel to The Da Vinci Code based on another Dan Brown novel. Tom Hanks is already confirmed to reprise his role as Professor Langdon and, if the deal is sealed, McGregor would play an insider at The Vatican who assists him in investigating a secret organisation bent on destroying the Catholic Church. A group of psychologically scarred ex-altar boys perhaps?

Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer has just signed up to do the thoughtful puckering part as scientist Vittoria Vetra.
Snipes In The Slammer
Wesley Snipes has been jailed for tax evasion. Overnight in a Florida court, US District Judge William Terrell Hodges gave the Blade star the maximum three-year sentence for ‘wilfully failing' to file a tax return from 1999 to 2001. That decision was handed down despite testimony from prominent character witnesses Denzel Washington and, er, Woody Harrelson.

Hodges says Snipes exhibited a "history of contempt over a period of time" (and that's without having seen Demolition Man). Snipes read a written statement, apologising for what he vaguely referred to as "costly mistakes". What, Blade: Trinity…?
Swinton Falls For L'Amore
That Oscar hasn't gone to Tilda Swinton's head. No doubt she's passed on myriad Hollywood projects since winning to make way for Italian romance yarn Lo Sono L'Amore (I Am Love). Luca Guadagnino is directing the drama that finds Swinton as a foreign society matron living in Milan who falls for a young chef. Or, in the words of Guadagnino, "It's about the irreparable consequences brought about by love in a high-bourgeois family."

Whatever. She's probably just doing it for the sun and spaghetti.
