Sabine Schmitz
Presenter
Sabine Schmitz is a German racing driver who was always destined to earn the title Queen of the Nürburgring; she grew up in her parents’ hotel just 300m from the legendary Nurburgring track and has spent her life surrounded by cars and racing. Sabine became the first woman to win the prestigious Nürburgring 24 Hour Race in 1996 and repeated the feat a year later. She currently runs her own race team.
Sabine's a familiar face on German television and has guested on Top Gear many times in the past - so expect her to set the pace that others follow! In fact, Sabine drives so fast, that most of those who get in the passenger seat of her car end up feeling pretty ill - Chris actually threw up in the passenger seat when the pair filmed together in America.
Quote MessageI really don’t care how a car looks - if it’s a sports car it has to have a good handling. If it’s not a sports car it has to be good for the purpose you bought it for. Driving an SUV to go shopping in town doesn't make sense to me. I love cars with pure driving skills. The fascination is the response you get while driving it. A car can be very human!
Sabine Schmitz, Top Gear presenter

Sabine was 16 when she drove her first car - a BMW 216i, but the "scariest moment in her life" was sitting in the back seat of her father's purple Ford Granada, aged five, as he tore around the Nordschleife, external - a Nürburgring race track so notoriously terrifying it's also known as "green hell".
Speed addict Sabine's top recorded speed is around 250mph, which she hit in a Bugatti Veyron, and the best car she says she's ever driven is a Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution, a German Touring Car.
Today Sabine owns a Porsche 997 GT3 RS, Ford Ranger Wildtrak, a John Deer and a Fendt tractor, claiming that latter is her favourite because driving it is "the best way to relax"! The car of her dreams is a "matt black Porsche Carrera GT".

Chris Harris
Presenter
Chris began his career in motoring journalism at the UK-based Autocar magazine, becoming their official road-test editor. Since then, he's amassed a gazillion fans on YouTube, hosting his own channel, Chris Harris on Cars, external, where he makes the rest of the internet exceedingly jealous with his seemingly unlimited access to the world's most exciting sports cars.

Quote MessageI think I have 12 [cars]. You’d need a gun to separate me from my 1957 2CV.
Chris Harris, Top Gear and Extra Gear Presenter
Chris has come a long way from the car he learnt to drive in - a humble Peugeot 205. He's upgraded his daily motor to a BMW M3, but says his favourite ride is a BMW 320d; the most enjoyable? The 1974 Porsche 911 3.0 RS; and the car of his dreams? The Ferrari F40.
So how does it feel to hit Chris's highest ever speed of 227mph? "Very, very good," apparently!
Beyond the super slick metal and hitting the high speeds, Chris is clearly a softie at heart. Our evidence? Well, the first person he told about getting the gig on Top Gear? "My mummy," he confesses! (Awwww!)
Quote MessageIf you jump a Mini four feet in the air, it tends to dislodge all the audio equipment that was supposedly bolted down...
Chris Harris on what he learnt test driving a Mini for Top Gear

Chris Harris and a very sweet ride
Chris leaped straight into the deep end on his first day filming on Top Gear, taking a £5m Ferrari 250 TdF spin - the memory of which he will "take to his grave".
He'd also recommend Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi for any future budding car show presenters, due to its "great circuit for oversteer", explaining; "You can film all night under the floodlights, and if you finish early enough, the hotel (which sits on top of the circuit) has a night club which stays open till 4am."
Let's hope Chris has been getting in those crucial early nights ahead of filming on Top Gear!
The new series of Top Gear starts on Sunday 29 May at 8pm on BBC2. Joanna Gosling spoke to presenter Rory Reid about what to expect.
That's not a question you'll need to ask for much longer; the award-winning journalist has spent 18 years writing about his love of cars, and was the only presenter selected from Top Gear's infamous open auditions last year.

Rory Reid
Quote MessageThe first car I bought with my own cash was a Vauxhall Astra GTE 8V. I wanted it because it was fast-ish and had a digital dashboard. I love anything high-tech...
Rory Reid, Top Gear and Extra Gear presenter
Rory's first car was a blue 1978 Ford Fiesta - a true classic for first-timers. And, of course, it had "more dents and rust than actual paint". However his loyalty now lies with Range Rovers because of their practicality and "because they're capable of just about anything" - going on and off road, as well as behaving well at high and low speeds.
His all-time dream car is a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray; "Astronauts drove them and I always wanted to be an astronaut," he says.
Quote MessageThe Stig taught me a few tricks behind the wheel. He made me a better driver, so I’m looking forward to showing off those skills on the new series...
Rory Reid
And how did Rory feel about scoring the biggest broadcast gig in motoring? "I was a ball of emotions. I was ecstatic and a little apprehensive," he admits. "I didn’t know what they had planned for the new series, but I was convinced I was the right person to help drive it forward. I wanted to get started straight away making the best car show even better."
