Conductor Ilan Volkov makes his debut at Hanley for the continuing Classics series.
Ravel's beautiful and enticing Mother Goose Suite is the perfect opening to tonight's programme. The Rococo Variations was the closest that Tchaikovsky ever came to writing a full concerto for cello and orchestra and this evening Guy Johnston joins the orchestra as the soloist. Rachmaninov's Symphony No.2 will bring the concert to a close.
