On a rain-drenched midsummer's night in London, Jane Weaver brought the dream and moved the festival feeling inside Brixton Academy.

Jane and her band come across as incredibly down to earth on stage (almost wilting under the bright "Blackpool Illuminations"-esque lights) but the hypnotic sound they produce is out of this world.

The Widnesian singer warmed up the cockles of the wet crowd's hearts with note perfect high octave rendition's of psychedelic songs like Did You See The Butterflies? from her krautrock-inspired latest album Modern Kosmology.

If you're wondering what that title means - like we were - then wonder no more as here's Jane's own guide to MK from The Great Escape.

Next up are The Moondlandingz, the side project of Fat White Family's Lias and Saul, alongside Adrian and Dean from Sheffield/Salford dance act The Eccentronic Research Council.

Lias - or Johnny Rocket as he is known for the purposes of this project - is for the most part half-dressed (which is smart by the standards of his other band) as he manically warbles his way through some beautifully-deranged *alternative glam/psych songs like Vessels and messed up Phil Spector-style ballads like The Strangle of Anna, from their album Interplanetary Class Classics.

*Or as the band themselves put it; "Semi-fictional outsider psychedelic ouija pop".

(Only semi-fictional? We need more commitment to our ouija pop than that guys... 😂)

The headline act is provided by world music extraordinaires Goat, who are surely everybody's favourite masked experimental communal voodoo-practising Swedish rock band.

We'd be hard pushed to name you another one.

Their set is as confusing as it is enchanting and leaves you wondering why all rock bands can't chant, wear masks and practice voodoo, as well as playing Hendrix-style riffs, flutes and bongos.

The new psych anthem Run To Your Mama helps to cap a wonderfully surreal and serene night of music.

We watched all three acts wreck the mic. Psych.

    BBC Newsbeat

The organisers of Y Not Festival in Derbyshire say the event will be back in 2018 despite online criticism urging music fans not to return to the site.

However, organiser Jon Drape told Newsbeat they did "absolutely everything" to keep it going but the safety of customers, staff and artists "must come first".

    In a statement, organisers said:

    Quote Message

We're used to conditions changing but unfortunately what happened this weekend was a perfect storm.

"We'll be going through a full debrief process and reviewing exactly what happened."

Some attendees have been critical of what they said was a lack of preparation and "bad organisation."

    The StrokesImage source, Getty Images

Is This It for The Strokes?

Well, it could be according to the New York indie rockers' guitarist.

Albert Hammond Jr was forced to deny rumours this weekend that the band were set to record a new record with Rick Rubin.

His dad - plain old Albert Hammond - is the source of the rumour after he told the The West Australian, external that it was happening.

He said: “I speak to my son every day and he says that they’re so happy."

Junior has since stepped in on social media to nip the rumours in the bud, saying his dad got " a prematurely excited" and that "a theoretical album plan would be years away, if at all."

    Yikes...

In fairness to Hammond Sr, the band did release a four-track EP last year called Future, Present, Past.

Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas entered the conversation, confirming his bandmate's comments but also plugging some new material from his solo side project, Julian Casablancas and The Voidz, in the process.

Oh and he even gave a humorous explanation for what Albert's dad might have meant regarding recording Rubin.

Turns out it's a whole different ball game...

Scott tells Sara about the celebrations of 50 years of sexual freedom in the UK.

Stars came out this weekend to celebrate 50 years since The Sexual Offences Act 1967, which legalised sex between men over 21 in England and Wales.

It was seen as a significant first victory in the fight for LGBT rights in the UK.

To mark that fact, the likes of Will Young, Alison Moyet, Marc Almond and the brilliantly-named Gay Abandon; West Yorkshire’s LGBT choir, all performed live on Radio 2 at the I Feel Love event in Hull.

Presenter Scott Mills was there and he told this week's brekkie show host Sara Cox all about it above.

If you have a spare hour and a half, then you can listen again to the show here. For now check out 9 Magical Moments from I Feel Love here.

Just four channels up on your digital wireless, 6 Music were also marking the date with their Loud & Proud series of programmes.

Watch 6 Music presenter and musician Tom Robinson perform the LGBT anthem Glad To Be Gay above.

    Julia MichaelsImage source, Republic Records

Chances are, you've heard Julia Michaels' music whether you know it or not.

The songs she's written for other artists, including Justin Bieber's Sorry, Ed Sheeran's Dive and Selena Gomez's Hands To Myself, have clocked up more than 8 billion streams worldwide.

They're all songs that feel deeply personal - even when the artist doesn't get a writing credit. And that's Julia's secret: She persuades pop stars to open up and spill their guts like a packet of Cornflakes.

For years, she was content working behind the scenes, until she wrote a song she just couldn't give away.

Issues, external, released in January, is as catchy as it is tender - with Michaels rejecting pop's prevailing narrative of the strong, independent woman to admit her vulnerabilities.

"When I'm down, I get real down / When I'm high, I don't come down," she sings over a crisp, pizzicato backing. "Yeah, I got issues... and one of them is how bad I need you."
