The 21-year-old rapper was taken to hospital after tweeting that she was going to take her own life, police have confirmed to the BBC.

Chicago Police have told Newsbeat Cupcakke, whose real name is Elizabeth Harris, was taken to hospital for a "mental evaluation" rather than physical treatment.

"Officers went out a few times to check on Elizabeth," a spokesperson said, adding, "Once they got in touch with her, they took her to hospital - not for her injuries - but for a mental evaluation."

The US singer appeared in the recent damning docu-series about R Kelly, denouncing the latter's alleged behaviour towards a series of women.

Now Legend has answered criticism after someone on social media who accused him of hypocrisy, having posed for pictures alongside disgraced film-maker Harvey Weinstein.

Legend pointed out the picture was taken long before the movie mogul was also accused of sexual assault.

"Since his being exposed, his company and career have rightfully been destroyed and he's been indicted," he wrote on Twitter.

The Hollywood producer faces charges involving alleged sex assaults on two women and denies the charges.

David Bowie, who died three years ago on Thursday, would have been 72 today and to mark that fact, a new EP of rare recordings, demos and unreleased songs has been announced.

Fifty years on from Bowie's first hit, Space Oddity, Parlophone the box set will contain nine previously physically unreleased recordings from that era, including an early studio version of the track, recorded in February 1969.

The EP is called Spying Through A Keyhole - a lyric taken from the previously unknown song Love All Around.

No official release date as-yet but it's rumoured to be out in the spring.

Elsewhere, the new David Bowie mobile phone app, based around the recent V&A exhibition, Dave Bowie is... also launched today, narrated by his friend, actor Gary Oldman.

Rock City Nottingham's dancefloor has been torn up for the first time in its 39-year history and is to be auctioned off piece by piece.

The venue has played host to scores of the world's biggest artists, including David Bowie, Nirvana, Oasis and the Smiths, since it opened in 1980.

Around 3,000 pieces of the original wooden floor will be cleaned and branded before being sold off to music fans who have registered an interest, the venue has said.

The new floor is set to be ready in time for Enter Shikari to perform on Friday.

We kicked off today's Music News LIVE with a bit of David Bowie (scroll down) on what would've been his birthday.

But it turns out there are actually two other very special musical birthday shout-outs to give too.

Bowie shares a birthday with the late King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, who was born in Tupelo exactly 84 years ago and Dame Shirley Bassey, who is 82 today.

So music lovers, if you're planning on having any kids next year, maybe (counts on fingers) 8 April might be a good day to get started.

Other birthdays today include Sir Stephen Hawking and the first ever Doctor Who, William Henry Hartnell.

Cold Feet actress Fay Ripley has told the Radio Times she once turned down a record contract with Simon Cowell's record company

Calling herself an "idiot", the 52-year-old said: "They'd seen me play a singer in a thing called I Saw You and wanted me to make an album.

"I didn't want to be like Robson & Jerome and I'm not that good a singer so I said no.

"But what I wouldn't do now to have a little sing-along."

The 2006 X Factor champion is one of the voices of a new app, designed to aid meditation and relaxation.

The app, which has been downloaded 39 million times so far, offers meditations, stories read by celebs such as Leona, and music to aid sleep and reduce stress.

But scientists are divided on whether these type of apps really work.

Research in 2015 says mobile apps have "numerous shortfalls", including "the frequent lack of an underlying evidence base, a lack of scientific credibility and subsequent limited clinical effectiveness".

Oh well, whatever gets you through the night... it's alright, we say.

'Pop', down the years, has become a bit of a dirty word in indie circles.

Sell out a stadium tour or headline a festival and suddenly the scenesters that first saw your band at that dive bar in Margate, Leicester, Dundee or wherever simply won't want to know you anymore.

Sports Team, however, don't seem to care about that. They've their sights set firmly on performing in the Premier League of mainstream indie pop within the next two seasons and they have a plan in place to achieve it.

"We wanna be a huge band," declares frontman Alex Rice, while sipping a pre-gig pint, ahead of their final UK support slot for Spanish band Hinds, just before Christmas.

"Robbie at Knebworth is the place we want to get to! We want to play to 100,000 people in a few years time."

"For a lot of our peers, it's punk or post punk; it's quite an insular scene and I think we want to have mainstream appeal, I think we’ve got the potential to do that."

He adds: "So if that means working with a selection of writers and trying to get the right producer to get it played on Radio 1, we can take our time to do that.

"It doesn't feel like there are any king-makers any more, no-one who can declare a winner.

"Now you really have to build it from a grassroots level, you have to have a genuine engagement with your fans and I'm pretty conscious of it, it's brilliant.

The six-piece hail - championed by BBC Music Introducing's Abbie McCarthy - hail "from all around" (Kent, Leeds, Cornwall and beyond) but actually met and formed the band in their last year at Cambridge University, which perhaps explains their lofty ambitions.

Alex believes the "erratic" nature of their live shows - and at times his own vocal performances - are very much part of their appeal.

The singer and his bandmates, who live together in Harlesden, north-west London, prefer not to be lumped in with the many other emerging London guitar groups.

In the ever-increasingly 'woke' world of modern music, rather than attacking political figures, their lyrics focus more on lampooning "self-congratulatory" bands, noughties era MTV celebs and Canary Wharf bankers, while at the same time painting glorious visions of Middle England.

"We’ve come up playing with Shame and HMLTD and Goat Girl and I don’t feel much an infinity with them at all," he confesses.

"It’s very post punk, sending stuff down, 'screw the Tories' or whatever... Great, do that, fair enough.

Having releasing their debut EP, Winter Nets, last year, Sports Team got their first real taste of the big time by selling out London's Scala theatre in September, having earlier headlined the BBC Music Introducing Stage at Reading + Leeds Festival, which Reading regular Alex says felt like a "homecoming."

"It was incredible.

"Looking at some of the acts who’d played on it years before; Jake Bugg. I’m personally a big fan - not sure everyone else is - you realise the history of the place.

"Reading was where me and Oli the bassist had been going since we were 13-years-old, so that felt like a genuine homecoming."

Festival fields in the English summertime may feel like familiar terrain but they'll head to the uncharted territory of the States in early March to perform at SXSW Festival.

No need to book time off work though for that trip as they all left their many varied 'normal' jobs behind them six months ago to commit full-time to Operation Knebworth.

Alex believes their collective recent memory of the real world of work gives them all a greater appreciation of the fact they are now on the way to living their best lives.

"I was an anthropologist, bizarrely," he says, of his old gig.

"Ben was in construction, Rob was doing social media stuff.

"All our peers have been in bands their whole lives, so being in an office for a couple of years you appreciate it so much more, especially touring, our first proper touring period.

"You realise what the alternative is. You’re finally doing what you love!"

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman has shared her new single; the brilliantly-named Anti-Lullaby.

It's taken from the soundtrack of the forthcoming Amazon Prime drama series, Hanna, which is about a young girl with extraordinary skills trying to shake off a CIA agent.

It was originally a 2011 movie, starring Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett.

In December, Karen released Lux Prima, a collab album with producer Danger Mouse.

The Usual Suspects director, who left the film half-way through production and was absent from the ceremony on Sunday night, has Instagrammed a message about its success.

The Queen biopic was named best drama and actor Rami Malek won a trophy for playing singer Freddie Mercury.

"What an honour. Thank you #HollywoodForeignPress, external," he wrote.

Singer was fired by the studio in December 2017 due to "unreliable behaviour on set", a source told the BBC.

But Singer said his firing came while he was ill and that the studio was "unwilling to accommodate" him.

The Chicago singer is reportedly planing legal action against the creators and contributors to new show, Surviving R. Kelly; which saw a host of women allege widespread abuse, which he denies.

TMZ, external has quoted sources close to Kelly as saying he's “disgusted” by the series.

"He’s going to sue everybody who had anything to do with this," they said.

A Facebook page dedicated to discrediting his accusers has now been removed, as the page "violated our community standards," a spokesperson for Facebook told the same US publication.

Chance the rapper, who appeared in the last episode of the docu-series this week apologised for having ever worked with R Kelly.

Baby, Ginger, Scary and Sporty (note, not Posh) return to the live circuit this year for the Spice Girls long-awaited reunion tour.

Ahead of their nine-date arena tour, manager Simon Fuller admits he hasn't look at the band's streaming or social media numbers, describing the stats as "meaningless."

Neither concepts were even around when the girls dominated the pop charts in the mid-late 90s and Fuller - who has managed the girls since they formed in 1994 - believes that you just can't quantify the legacy of 'Girl Power'.

Fuller said: "There's no music out, the streaming on Spice Girls, we don't even bother looking at it because I haven't a clue what it is, my guess is it's not very much.

"It's the fastest selling, biggest selling tour this year, because people engaged with them, they are engaged with them, the girls are awesome, they have a message which connects and we will sell out more stadiums, quicker, than any other artist on planet Earth. Fact."

Sounds like someone might have touched a nerve.

For reference the Spice Girls have 333k followers on Instagram, compared to Little Mix's 10.9m.

A movie adaptation of the play Beats, originally performed on stage at the Edinburgh Festival will close this year's event.

Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh is the executive producer of the film, which is set in 1994 as the Criminal Justice Bill attempted to place restrictions on Scotland's rave culture and the free party movement.

It also features an original soundtrack from Scottish DJ, JD Twitch.

The 17-year-old American singer is urging leaders to listen to the voice of the youth as "teenagers know more about the country that we’re living in right now than anybody".

She told the NME: "The world is ending and I honestly don’t understand the law that says you have to be older to vote, because they’re going to die soon and we’ll have to deal with it."

Referring to the anti-gun protests taking place in cities like Washington DC last year, she added that watching "young people taking part in peaceful protests and not obeying is beautiful.”

“People underestimate the power of a young mind that is new to everything and experiencing for the first time," She said.

"We’re being ignored and it’s so dumb. We know everything.”

The artist sparked fears for her safety after tweeting: "I'm about to commit suicide" on Monday night.

CupcaKKe's friend, comedian Elijah Daniel, said police had taken the 21-year-old from Chicago, whose real name is Elizabeth Harris to hospital and said he was told that she was fine.

She later shared a screengrab of her tweet on Instagram, writing: "Thank you for everything y’all have done for me I really appreciate it."

CupcaKKe, widely-tipped by music critics as a major talent, is known for her hyper-sexualised and comical lyrical content.

British singer Charli XCX reached out to her following the tweet, calling her "one of the most unique, genuine and loving people" she has ever met.

It's been ten years since the shy Scottish singer shocked and surprised a live audience on Britain's Got Talent when she burst into a full-blooded rendition, external of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

Now, in what will probably be a ratings winner for Simon Cowell, she's done it again by returning to compete in the premiere of America's Got Talent: The Champions.

Now looking far more polished that on her debut, she even managed to earn judge Mel B's Golden Buzzer - the first of the series.

Describing herself as a "champion of people who have no voice", Susan modestly adds, "I've sold about twenty million records."

We wondered what he'd been up to as he's been off Twitter for a whole WEEK but turns out Kanye West turned a regular church service into his own mini gig on Sunday.

Kid Cudi, Tony Williams and 070 Shake joined the rapper for a re-working of some of his hits, alongside a gospel choir.

It included a rendition of Reborn from Ye/Cudi's 2018 collab album Kids See Ghosts.

He's either a grime MC making punk music or a punk making rap music. Either way, slowthai - number four in the BBC's Sound of 2019 - is unlike any artist to emerge from the past 12 months.

The 24-year-old "class clown dunce" and his nihilistic, often funny tales of petty criminality have taken the music industry by storm with effusive praise for his energetic live shows, external.

Born Tyron Frampton, slowthai was brought up on a Northampton council estate nicknamed "The Bush".

Raised by a single mum, his name comes from his childhood habit of talking slowly (Slow-Ty). But his vocals are anything but as he spits lyrics with the furious pace of a young man who has much to say, whether it's about race...

Brown sugar never been so sweet / But vanilla ice cream is my favourite dish / Blacker the berry, the sweeter the drip - make a cheesecake, last bit, we can split it / Why you care what my pigment is?

...or a tribute to the women in his life.
