  2. Pet Shop Boys share unreleased song One Way Streetpublished at 15:43 BST 13 July 2017

    Ian Youngs
Entertainment and Arts Reporter, BBC News

Electro pop legends Pet Shop Boys have shared a previously unreleased track which was one offered to Banarama.

Speaking to the BBC, singer Neil Tennant explained that he got the title from a book by a famous philosopher called Walter Benjamin, "which, I hasten to add," he said. "I'd never actually read.

"We offered it to Bananarama, who were making a new album," he continued. "We gave it to them and they rejected it!

"The reason we didn't put it out was because I thought the metaphor of a one way street - that something was predestined - was maybe a bit contrived. But listening to it all these years later it's very catchy."

Listen above to the new (old) song.

  4. 'Not likely' that T in the Park will take place in 2018published at 15:21 BST 13 July 2017

A corwdmember at TRNSMTImage source, PA

Geoff Ellis, the organiser of T in the Park has said it is "not looking likely" the music festival will take place in 2018.

This year, Scotland's biggest music festival was replaced in the summer festival diary by TRNSMT, which took place in Glasgow last weekend.

Ellis said T in the Park could return as an "evolved" festival for over-18s that was more focused on rock bands than electronic dance music (EDM).

The annual event, which has run since 1994, took a break this year following difficulties at the new site in Strathallan concerning a pair of nesting ospreys.

The 2015 event drew the largest number of complaints and negative comments in the festival's history.

  5. Grime4Corbyn question MP's use of Stormzy lyricspublished at 15:15 BST 13 July 2017

This morning we told you how new Labour MP Sarah Jones had dropped a bit of Stormzy into her maiden Commons speech yesterday.

Scroll down for more on that.

We're sure it was meant in tribute to the young artist but now the Grime4Corbyn collective have questioned whether the MP for Croydon Central actually knows what the song in question; Big For Your Boots is actually about.

  7. Stevie Van Zandt to tour UK solo for first time in 25 yearspublished at 14:59 BST 13 July 2017

Stevie Van Zandt (right)Image source, Getty Images
    Image caption,

"Boss, I'll be back. Just off to the U.K for a while..."

You may know him as Bruce Springsteen's long-serving, bandana-wearing E Street Band guitarist.

Or perhaps even as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos.

But now Stevie Van Zandt is heading back out on the road under his own steam for his first UK solo tour in a quarter of a century

Little Steven will take himself and The Disciples Of Soul on a a seven-date UK tour in November 2017, in support of career-spanning new album Soulfire, which he describes as "me doing me.”

The tour starts at London's Roundhouse on 4 November and takes in Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow and Liverpool, before ending at Newcastle’s O2 Academy on 16 November.

He said: “I’ve always been very thematic with my work, very conceptual.

“I need a big picture, I can’t just do a collection of songs, that doesn’t work for me.

"In this case, the concept became me. Who am I? I’m kind of my own genre at this point. So I tried to pick material that when you added it all up, really represented me."

Check him out below contemplating the changing world with his big band below.

You lot on twitter have some curious comedy timing.

Not for the first time and apparently apropos of nothing, Posh Band Names is trending this afternoon.

Must be a quiet news day, until Johanna Konta gets up and running.

We heard Prince Harry was rocking out to The Killers in Hyde Park last weekend, but without further ado here's the lineup for the poshest fictional festival ever.

Starting with the Private Beach Boys (LOL) from Rishabh.

    BBC Radio 1

According to Radio 1's Huw Stephens, her new album CTRL will be on a lot of critics' end of the year best of 2017 lists.

And we won't argue with him.

SZA (pronounced 'Sizza') has written for artists like Rihanna and Beyonce and even persuaded Drew Barrymore to make a cameo in one of her music videos.

Well, it did fit in with the song title after all...

Alright let's take it back to the 80s now for today's #TBT.

It's 32 years to the very day that stars of the music world gathered with 72,000 fans at the old Wembley Stadium for Live Aid.

The event, organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for victims of the Ethiopian famine, was also broadcast to an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations.

U2, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, The Who, Elton John and Black Sabbath were among performers on the day/night but the event is perhaps best remembered for Freddie Mercury's incredible performance with Queen.

    "Aaaaayo.... Aaaaaaaaaaayo, external!!"

Anyone? Here's some pictures and reaction to jog all of our memories.

An album's worth of unheard Michael Jackson songs is to go under the hammer in New York with a pre-sale estimate of around $1m.

The 12-track CD containing the nine unreleased tracks appears as a blank disc with the word 'Bible' written in pen.

It's one of a number of Jackson items, including self-portraits and clothing, being sold in the online auction lasting from 19-28 July.

Mixes of three of the songs on the recording have been heard - Monster, Breaking News and Keep Your Head Up appeared on the album Michael in 2010.

The other nine, said to be of master quality have not been released.

Here's the catch though - whomever makes the winning bid will not own rights to the music, so cannot distribute the recording.

It's apparently been given to the auction house by "a personal friend and personal assistant to Michael".
