    What a life.

Donald Glover has told the BBC he has been inspired to write new music by living in the UK.

“You guys have been very instrumental in my music. London has been very inspirational," he told a BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo.

He also addressed what people should call him now that Childish Gambino is coming to an end. “Yeah but it’s not yet”, he said, “you still have a lot more time of calling me that if you want”.

Glover has a pretty hectic schedule at the minute.

As well as writing new music, he has a role in the new Star Wars film as Lando Calrissian... not to mention his part in the new remake of The Lion King.

  3. The Boss is Born To Run on Broadwaypublished at 15:55 BST 9 August 2017

    Variety

    Bruce Springsteen

Not your boss - unless you're in Bruce Springsteen's band that is.

The 67-year-old New Jersey rocker has announced an eight week run of Springsteen on Broadway gigs at the 1,000 seater Walter Kerr Theater, beginning in October.

Bruce, who will perform songs and read excerpts from his 2016 autobiography Born to Run, said: “I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind.

“In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theater is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years.”

You can imagine the clamour for tickets and so in a bid to beat the touts (or scalpers in American lingo) the show will make use of Ticketmaster’s new Verified Fan technology.

  4. Kendrick Lamar: Rapping about Trump like beating a dead horsepublished at 15:37 BST 9 August 2017

    Rolling Stone magazine

    Kendrick LamarImage source, Reuters

"The greatest rapper alive" as they are calling him has given an in depth interview to Rolling Stone magazine in the States.

In it, Kendrick outlines his obsession with his craft, the temptations of stardom and what he learnt from visiting Nelson Mandela's prison, and working with Bono.

He was also asked why, on the whole, he's been quiet about US president Donald Trump.

He said: "I mean, it's like beating a dead horse. We already know what it is. Are we gonna keep talking about it or are we gonna take action?

    Quote Message

"You just get to a point where you're tired of talking about it. It weighs you down and it drains your energy when you're speaking about something or someone that's completely ridiculous."

He added: "So, on and off the album, I took it upon myself to take action in my own community. On the record, I made an action to not speak about what's going on in the world or the places they put us in. Speak on self; reflection of self first. That's where the initial change will start from."

The rapper is nominated for eight awards at the upcoming MTV MVAs.

One of them is for the Taylor Swift Bad Blood remix he rapped on, which is allegedly about her feud with fellow singer and presenter on the night Katy Perry.

    Shame no-one told Ken.

"No, I wasn't aware of that, bro.. On the record, no.

"Which makes it even more funny now, for sure. That's far beyond my concern. I have to stay away from that, for sure. That's some real beef."

It's likely that all three will be there at the Forum in California later this month.

Let's hope it'll be alright on the night.

Laurie Vincent of SlavesImage source, Loose London

Now we're used to hearing him making a racket with his guitar in Kentish punk band Slaves but now Laurie Vincent is showing his more delicate side with an exhibition of his own artwork.

Loose with Laurie Vincent, external will be on display at Hoxton Arches Gallery in London from 10-15 August courtesy of Loose London.

They say: "Vincent’s work looks at social, global and personal events currently unfolding around him.

"Sometimes humorous, his hyper-colourful paintings reflect the noise and intensity of information inflicted on people every day in the social media age."

Amen to that. Apparently Laurie's work begs also the question “are you satisfied?”.

We think we may have heard him ask that same deep question before somewhere in a different form, external. Still a very valid one.

  8. 'No drug testing' at Leeds Festivalpublished at 14:44 BST 9 August 2017

    Drug-testing at festivals

Leeds Festival has delayed plans to provide drug testing tents at this year's event.

Organisers say the scheme failed to receive "sufficient support" from the city council.

A spokesman for Leeds City Council said no formal application had been made by organisers Festival Republic but discussions had taken place with the group, the council, police and third sector agencies.

He said a "wide range of views" on the idea had been heard but the final decision was ultimately taken by Festival Republic to not move ahead with the plan.

    Image caption,

Muse will headline the August Bank Holiday festival

Festival organiser Melvin Benn told the Press Association "without adequate testing people don't know what they are buying.

"They aren't going to stop buying it because the testing isn't there, the testing will just mean that they know what they've got."

The scheme, run by drugs safety charity The Loop, allows festival-goers to take their drugs for testing.

They are then told what is in the drugs before The Loop destroys whatever was handed over.

Earlier this year the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) said testing facilities should be "standard" at festivals so revellers can test the strength and content of drugs they are considering taking.

  9. Camila compares 5H to life as a soloistpublished at 14:26 BST 9 August 2017

    Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello has been speaking about her new singles and how the recording of them differed from being in Fifth Harmony.

The singer released two new songs on Friday, which followed on from her debut solo single Crying In The Club - a song which resolutely refuses to leave the top 20 months after its release.

Havana and OMG, which feature guest appearances from Young Thug and Quavo respectively, have already entered the trending chart top 20 and racked up nearly 10 mlilion views between them. Not bad for a week's work.

Camila has been talking about the differences between being in Fifth Harmony and recording solo material. She told Wonderland:, external

    Quote Message

In the group we would record songs for two weeks, it was a really fast process, like sometimes we’d do five songs in a day, it would just be like ‘alright you sing the verse, you sing that’, and then you just record it and that’s it.

    Quote Message

But this has been… Probably because I’ve had a chance to really write and make the songs, and be involved in every aspect of it from the production to the mixing. Definitely a lot more challenging but more fun, for sure.”

He's getting the hang of this a cappella stuff having treated crowds to a special rendition of Live Forever and Don't Look Back In Anger recently.

Now after promising us new music this week, Liam has come through with (some of) the goods and shared an isolated vocal take from his new track For What It's Worth.

It looks set to be the third single from his forthcoming debut solo album As You Were and contains the following lyrics:

In my defence, my intentions were good / And heaven knows a place somewhere for the misunderstood...

He certainly qualifies for entry to that place.

    Image caption,

    We have matching hats. Look!

It's a story often retold... and often refuted: Yoko Ono broke up The Beatles... and John Lennon's first marriage.

But according to a recently resurfaced letter Lennon wrote in 1976, it's not true. At all.

The letter, addressed to his first wife Cynthia, is one of two written by Lennon about the end of his first marriage up for auction.

It reads: "As you and I well know, our marriage was over long before the advent of LSD, or Yoko Ono... and that's reality!"

Lennon also recalls the time she asked him to remarry her and bring forth another child into the world: "I politely told you no" and suggested she "should try to avoid talking to and posing for magazines and newspapers!"

It does end on a cheerier note: "We did have some good years, so dwell on them for a change."

The second letter was an open letter to a magazine. It reads: "Dear sir or madam, I would appreciate this letter being printed in your magazine without any editing. I think it's only fair to me and your readers to present my side of the story. Thank you, John Lennon '76" with a sketch added to it.

It's thought to be in response to the News of the World publishing excerpts of Cynthia book.

If you've got a few grand to spare, they're all yours.
