It's impossible to top a speech by Bill Withers, so host Paul Gambaccini doesn't even try - he simply says goodbye.
Bill was honoured on the night along with the likes of Pulp, Florence and Gary Numan.
Coldplay, Skepta and Michael Kiwanuka were among the prizes but the story of the afternoon is surely Laura Mvula - dropped by her record label - scooping best album.
