It's time for us to give way to our right honourable friends elsewhere on the BBC.

We'd like to thank you all for respectfully reading MNL today but at the same time urge you to scroll down and consider what else you may have missed today.

That Includes Andrew Ridgeley's new memoir of his old pal George Michael, tributes to "the greatest drummer in the world" and more on the debate around Michael Jackson's legacy.

Plus a Newbie Tuesday who will be channelling her inner Keith Flint at SXSW tomorrow night.

We'll leave you with new supergroup, Better Oblivion Community Center - that's Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers to you and I - paying tribute to The Killers on song form.

"Damn good," said the Vegas band of their impromptu cover of Human.

    Here here.

Check it out for yourselves above and MNL will be back in session from 09:00 GMT.

The Irish singer-songwriter's Wasteland, Baby! knocked the sountrack to A Star Is Born, by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, off the Billboard 200 number one in its first week.

Hozier also went to number six in the UK last week.

    Not just any truce...

The Truce of Twilight is the latest track from Damon Albarn's third most famous band.

The black and white performance video - not dissimilar to the Foals one earlier - shows a newly shaven-headed Damon join Clash bassist Paul Simonon, ex-Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen and Verve guitarist Simon Tong for a rendition of the the track from their latest album, Merrie Land.

Fun fact: The video was filmed on three iPhones recording simultaneously.

TGTB&TQ will perform at the 6 Music festival in Liverpool in a few weeks and you can find out how to get tickets over at the festival website.

Earlier today we told you how an increased appetite for country music has led to the UK's first dedicated radio station.

Jade Bird knows a thing or two about country; her debut EP, Something America, put a fresh UK spin on the old US hillbilly favourite genre.

Her last few singles however have seen Jade go a little rockier, so it's with interest that we await her new single and tonight's Hottest Record, My Motto.

Tune in to Radio 1 tonight from 19:30 to hear it.

Speaking to our music reporter Mark Savage at the Global music awards last week, Jade said: "It's a piano ballad and I haven't released a ballad yet. It's a big part of who I am.

"I studied piano and I play it in concert, so I'm really excited to release something that feels heartfelt."

The pair's joint album, Lux Prima, is out on Friday and they've given us another early taste with the new track, Turn The Light.

It's got one hell of a funky bassline and is a sort of dreamy disco jam, which you can hear below.

We hope they will taking this one out on the road soon.

The man who invented dub and also taught Bob Marley a chord or too, has requested that his fans no longer "bring me any greens," at future shows.

Recent generous offers of certain substances have apparently led to the 82-year-old reggae legend having "problems with customs."

The man himself would rather you brought him "little mirrors" to decorate his outfits.

We guess this is the Rastafarian version of when a new bride and groom request that you don't get them anything for the home that they've already lived in for years as a wedding gift.

Scratch plays Gloucester Guildhall on Thursday, so please heed his call.

It's a short track (a minute and a half) so it probably wasn't worth spending a load of cash on the video.

But Solange has decided to let the funky, Sister Nancy-ish dancehall groove of Binz speak for itself with a video shot entirely on webcam.

There is a lot of twerking in the kitchen and darkened living room so it's perhaps not for those of a sensitive disposition.

It is however, a certified tune.

It seems absence really does make the heart grow fonder of the former Disney child stars, as their previous chart high came back in 2008 with Burnin' Up.

The returning US pop rocking siblings have scored their first ever US number one after Sucker went straight in at top spot.

The guys (above) seemed pretty happy if not shocked by the news, which resulted in one inflatable clown being punched in the face.

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who recently married frontman Nick Jonas, starred in the rather lavish video for the track and she's posted her joy at the chart news below too.

The fashion designer has asked a judge to dismiss a legal action brought against him over a new range of T-shirts which bear a resemblance to Nirvana's famous piece of merchandise, based on a Kurt Cobain sketch.

The Seattle grunge pioneers are suing fashion label Marc Jacobs International over the Bootleg Redux Grunge range of clothing.

    Nirvana logoImage source, Getty Images

The band says it has used the "copyright-protected design and logo continuously since 1992 to identify its music”.

Jacobs lawyers say the band doesn't own the copyright and there are pronounced differences between the designs.

    Marc JacobsImage source, Getty Images

The Jacobs version features an M and a J (instead of Xs) for its eyes and the word "Heaven" is printed in a typeface similar to 'Nirvana' on the band's merch.

"The Complaint stems from the false premise that the Plaintiff owns a U.S. copyright registration on a smiley face design (albeit a different one than the one found on the Accused Products), when in fact, that smiley face is merely a fraction of the full artwork covered by the registration," reports the legal papers.

  13. Georgia is going into electro pop 'battle' at SXSWpublished at 11:36 GMT 12 March 2019

Newbie Tuesday #68 will do so though in a more Zen-like state than before

    Paul Glynn
    Music News LIVE reporter

When BBC Music Introducing present their official showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas on Wednesday night, they'll be holding back their secret weapon until last on the bill.

After emerging UK acts like Another Sky, Grace Carter and Brits Critics' Choice winner Sam Fender have all attempted to blow away US music industry delegates, critics and fans alike with their greatest hits so far, next into bat will be London-based electro pop star-in-waiting Georgia.

And she won't be going in to play it safe; a lesson she learnt from a recently departed big beat legend.

"What Keith Flint said," she tells MNL.

"I read the other day that going into Prodigy gigs he felt was like going into battle.

"It suddenly occurred to me that’s how I want it to feel, I don’t want to come off stage thinking 'oh, what do I want for dinner'.

“I want to come off stage having sweated out and felt like I was part of the audience."

    Keith FlintImage source, Getty Images
    Image caption,

    Keith Flint

She adds: "In order to do that you have to really work so I just want to throw myself in it you know.

    Quote Message

I think basically now what it’s about, the type of music I'm doing live, is just about creating a positive atmosphere for the audience and making them feel welcome and making them feel like they can have a dance on the dancefloor.

    Quote Message

That’s my job to reel them in and try and get them into my little world and I know it’s gonna be a bit of a challenge but I'm up for it.

    GeorgiaImage source, Rosie Marks

While she may be in Austin right about now, Georgia Barnes - to give her her full name - is most heavily influenced by two other US music scenes; Detroit techno and Chicago house, which both originated in the 1980s.

The Brit school alumni is a real student of the history of electronic dance music, with a deep love of Depeche Mode but also a lifelong affinity for Kate Bush too.

As part of her ongoing education, the 29-year-old recently toured the UK with dance collective Jungle and will rejoin her new musical "family" for more dates in Australia later this year.

In truth though - the singer, whose track, Started Out (below) you'll have heard played non-stop on Radio 1 over the past month or so - is having her second crack at being an overnight success, having released her debut album in 2015, following a stint as Kate Tempest's drummer.

That one didn't bother the radio waves too much but Georgia believes the experience ultimately helped her to find her artistic path.

"The first album was probably a little bit too soon to release that album," she admits, "but I'd worked on that myself and got signed to Domino Records and I just had to go with it and release it.

"The difference between me now and me back then is I sort of know what I want to do and I know the music that I want to create, whereas back then it was kind of an experiment.

    Quote Message

I’ve learned to try and enjoy the moment. I’ve tried to be more Zen about it and to like myself a bit more.

    Quote Message

Back then I don’t know if I liked myself, I was trying to find my identity and who I was, a voice in music. I still am but I feel a little bit more like I'm on my way.

Achieving her Zen status has involved substituting drinking for yoga before going on stage, in order to prepare for singing while simultaneously operating a Simmons electronic drum kit standing up.

“It is a lot to do," she admits, "I had to really push the boat out."

There was no boat to push out (financially speaking) for the video for her aforementioned recent hit, but luckily some creative thinking by photographer/director Rosie Marks led to some rather memorable and visceral visuals.

"One of her ideas was to get people that aren’t particularly good at dancing - just characters - and we just get them off the street just to capture a feeling of the first time they heard the song.

"I just thought ‘wow that’s really simple and really effective, let’s do that.’"

You can watch the end result above and keep your eyes peeled for Georgia in amongst her new and diverse dancing friends/fans.

Another new friend/fan, Annie Mac, has been "the catalyst" for her success so far, according to Georgia, who didn't realise they were actually neighbours until well after the Radio 1 DJ had started spinning her tune.

"I was doing a bit of shopping and saw her and I had to say something.

"I said 'Annie, thanks for playing the record' and she was like 'you're Georgia?!"

She'll now perform at one of Annie's Amp nights later this month.

Having famous DJ's around should be nothing new though to Georgia, whose dad Neil Barnes was a founding member of UK electronic outfit Leftfield.

Seeing his shows as a child gave her that first taste of what it's like to control the rave, from an early age.

"I was almost like a Leftfield mascot," she recalls.

"They brought me up on stage a fair few times and I used to have a Leftfield T-shirt and go on somone's shoulders and see 80 thousand plus people in a tent all raving their heads off.

"My road has been a lot more complicated than my dad’s as they were like an overnight success story.

"But it was incredible to grow up in amongst all that."

  14. Ed Sheeran could be in deep water with his local councilpublished at 11:14 GMT 12 March 2019

    The Sun

    Ed SheeranImage source, Getty Images

Ed Sheeran is making waves at his Suffolk estate with a new pond which has been dug in his land and is meant to support wildlife, but his neighbours fear will be used for pool parties instead.

The heart-shaped wildlife pond, which features a jetty, steps and sheds (and can be seen below), was installed after being granted planning permission in January 2017.

Last year, Suffolk Coastal District Council questioned its possible use for recreational purposes during an "enforcement investigation".

That case was closed when a fresh planning application said the jetty and steps were "to form interest" and allow for emergency access and the sheds were to cover the borehole and pump.

It is now investigating to make sure the rules are being followed.

One of South Korea's most successful boyband stars is retiring from showbiz amid claims he supplied prostitutes to business investors.

Seungri will be leaving five-piece group Big Bang, who have sold over 140 million records since their 2006 debut and are known as the "Kings of K-pop".

The 28-year-old wrote on Instagram: "I have decided to retire because the controversy has become so big."

    He has denied procuring prostitutes.

Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, had already cancelled all planned engagements in February, and the March shows of his solo tour.

In a statement he apologised to his fans, and promised to "sincerely participate in investigations into all allegations".

As schoolfriends and then Wham! bandmates, Andrew Ridgeley arguably knew George Michael better than anyone and now he has announced a new book about their friendship and the formation of their group.

George & Me will chart their rise to fame and success and will also cover their farewell gig at London's Wembley Stadium in 1986.

George died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53.

Ridgeley wrote at the time: "I cried like I'd never cried before."

He and former backing singer Pepsi and Shirlie paid an emotional tribute to George at the Brit Awards in 2017.

“A supernova in a firmament of shining stars had been extinguished and it felt like the sky had fallen in. It started out ordinarily enough," he said.

"In 1975 we were two boys who happened to share a mutual sense of humour, a love of life-affirming music, the artists and record it gave birth to, and a shared sense that we understood it."

Ridgeley's publisher Louise Moore said he "is the only man who can tell this story.

"It's a memoir of love, friendship and music."
