So it's Friday afternoon and we're all another week older and wiser.

Not quite as wise as the Queen of Pop, Madonna, who turned 60 on Thursday.

But we do now know that Prince's famous date with a prize winner is to be turned into a film and that Big Moon guitarist Soph Nathan is also now a fully-fledged frontwoman too with Our Girl.

Having said all that here's our top five music news stories from over the past seven days.

    1) Aretha Franklin will be greatly missed

Reports emerged on Monday that the Queen of Soul was "seriously ill" at her home in Detroit.

Early tributes poured in from around the music world from the likes of Mariah Carey (above) and Beyonce and Jay dedicated their Motor City gig that night to the Respect singer.

A spokesman for the family later confirmed the reports, adding their thanks for the "love and support".

On Wednesday, it was revealed that an all-star tribute gig - arranged by music exec, Clive Davis - is already in the offing for November, while Aretha's own church prayed for "a miracle".

The Queen of Soul was announced to have died yesterday at the age of 76, with the likes of Carol King, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Alexander O'Neill and former US president Bill Clinton leading the tributes.

    2) Liam Gallagher protects his fans from security

LG's busy summer took him to the Sonarama Ribera Festival in Burgos on Saturday, where he had to cut short a rendition of the Oasis classic Wonderwall in order to berate Spanish security guards for their treatment of some of his fans.

"They're having fun man, stop getting on their cases," he said.

Grime star Stormzy launches Cambridge scholarship for black students

    3) Stormzy is still the people's champ

While taking a load of fans on holiday on Merky Airways may have been a fun PR stunt, the south London rapper's latest move is set to change the lives of two young people for good.

On A-Level results day on Thursday, the rapper launched his new Stormzy Scholarship to help a couple of talented black students get to Cambridge University.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the star - who didn't do A-Levels despite his six A*s, three As and three Bs at GCSE - said: "I always said I wanted it to serve as a reminder that the opportunity is there.

"If you're academically brilliant, then don't think because you come from a certain community, that studying at one of the highest educational institute in the worlds isn't possible."

The grime MC will fund one scholarship this year, while the other will be funded by YouTube Music - who pledged support after hearing of Stormzy's plans.

    4) Pearl Jam's dead Trump gig poster caused a stink in some quarters

The Seattle grunge pioneers were accused of producing a "blatant display of extremism" with the below image.

The poster - designed by bassist Jeff Ament and artist Bobby Brown - depicts a blazing White House on fire, with the tiny figure of US President Donald Trump being eaten by an eagle.

It was designed for a gig in Montana on Monday night, which also acted as a fundraiser to help re-elect Democrat senator Jon Tester. Republican Matt Rosendale - who is hoping to unseat Tester - described the poster as “disgusting and reprehensible”

Ament later explained the move in a letter to Rolling Stone magazine: "The role of artists is to make people think and feel, and the current administration has us thinking and feeling.

"I was the sole conceptualist of this poster, and I welcome all interpretations and discourse. Love, from the First Amendment, Jeff Ament.”

    Last but not least...

    5) Nicki Minaj made a US TV show host blush

The US rapper did not hold back on her controversial-yet-playful new track, Barbie Dreams.

The song features on new album, Queen, and sees Nicki list and diss a number of big name stars - including Drake - that she would not, ahem, "get with", as US TV show presenter Stephen Colbert so chastely puts it.

Colbert has quick to notice, however, that his name was not on the banned list.

Watch above as Nicki responds with a freestyle rap that would almost make your computer screen blush, let alone the poor presenter.

An agreement struck between between Sony and the Prince Estate in June means the trove can be released

Fans of the purple one rejoice!

A huge batch of Prince catalogue titles have been made available online for the first time, alongside a new anthology.

An agreement struck between between Sony and the Prince Estate in June means the trove of 23 rare Prince titles - often hard-to-find or out-of-print - can now be streamed and bought online.

The releases - spanning 1995 to 2010 - include multiple albums, from Chaos and Disorder (1996) to LOtUSFLOW3R (2009), taken from Prince's time with The Revolution.

A number of live performances also feature, as well as online recordings from his own subscription service, NPG.

    PrinceImage source, The Prince Estate

The artist held a love-hate relationship with the digitalisation of music prior to his death in 2016.

Originally a willing digital innovator, he released his 1998 album Crystal Ball online, in addition to launching NPG.

But by 2010 he branded the internet "completely over" and limited the distribution of his material on streaming sites and services.

Following his death, investigators discovered that the star had been hoarding a secret vault of unreleased material in the basement of his Paisley Park estate that is yet to see the light of day.

Thankfully his estate have also curated a new compilation, Prince Anthology: 1995-2010, to posthumously bridge this gap.

It should be stressed that the material is not part of the 'Prince vault' of unreleased music discovered in the basement of the singer's Paisley Park home.

You might have seen that airline advert where people are holding hands running across beaches to the sound of Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand (see what they did there) or even been lucky enough to go on one of their planes and hear the song played on loop throughout your flight.

To us that all sounds wonderful, but apparently some holiday goers are a bit annoyed by the whole thing and have decided to vent their frustrations on social media.

As they say there's no such thing as bad publicity and with her new single, All I Am out today, she has chosen the perfect time to apologise to all those disgruntled passengers.

Speaking to Kat Shoob from The Official Vodafone Big Top 40, she said she would like to say sorry to anyone who's sick of her song.

"I didn’t make them do it like that. I agreed to let them have my song and I apologise if it annoys you!”

“I haven’t been on a Jet2 flight you know, why haven’t they invited me? Take me away guys!,” she added.

Maybe I’ll just book a flight soon…Get the little mic thing and be like 'right guys, I got a little treat for ya' - I’m gonna maybe see if I can do that!

'Iconic' Janet Jackson - as latest collaborator Daddy Yankee calls her - is back today with a new music video for Made For Now.

The pair are seen partying in the streets of Brooklyn, New York.

Listen closely and you might even learn some Spanish from the Puerto Rican star. We caught "manana" and "uno, dos, tres" but the rest was a little bit too "rapido" to be honest.

Janet has been speaking to Radio 1Xtra breakfast show host and JJ mega-fan Dotty this morning about the new release, her upcoming musical project and being a mother for the first time at 50 (with some advice for fellow new baby momma Cardi B).

She also told Dotty what she loves most about living in London these days and it's not exactly what you'd expect.

Hello again and welcome to Friday's edition of Music News LIVE.

Yesterday was "a sad day" for music lovers, as Rolling Stone Keith Richards puts it above, as news broke of the death of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul.

Tributes poured in from around the music world and we'll bring you more of those today.

Also coming up today, US pop star Ariana Grande gets a standing ovation for her musical tribute to Aretha ahead of the release of her fourth album, Kent punk rockers Slaves drop their third and Manc grime star Bugzy Malone puts out his first, following three top 10 EPs.

Singles wise, Janet Jackson teams up with Daddy Yankee, Calvin Harris collaborates with Sam Smith and Jess Glynne is back with another track.

Plus later we'll have 5 Things We've Learned This Week.

We're off to Green Man Festival in Wales just after lunch, so let's get started immediately, with Aretha performing (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
