Well done for making it to the end of the week.

As a reward, we have condensed everything we have learned this week into five points.

Sadly, we don't have the time or space to include everything, such as the tributes to singer and comic Ken Doddand tributes to rapper Craig Mack who died at the age of 46, or news that Jay Z and Beyonce - aka Bey Z - are going on tour again or how Nashville's Soccer Mommy (above) could just be your new favourite artist.

    Anyway, on we go...

    EminemImage source, Getty Images

    1) Eminem is no fan of the NRA

The rapper used his appaearance at the iHeartRadio awards in California to highlight the problem of gun control and blamed the National Rifle Association for being "responsible for this whole production".

While performing his track Nowhere Fast, Em opened with a special extra verse and the aim was quite clear.

This whole country is going nuts / And the NRA is in our way / They’re responsible for this whole production/ They hold the strings, they control the puppet.

His comments come after the National Rifle Association (NRA) began suing the state of Florida for passing a gun control law in the wake of a school shooting that left 17 people dead.

Eminem also paid tribute to Alex Moscou, a Marjory Stoneman Douglas student who survived the school shooting and spoke at the awards.

    2) You could be waiting a long time for that Jack White/DJ Khaled collab...

The US bluesman has taken a dig at the DJ/producer/radio personality/record label executive/author in a new interview with Rolling Stone, external.

Jack has questioned what exactly he actually does, claiming his hit Wild Thoughts - with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller - is "just Santana's song [Maria Maria, external] in its entirety".

Khaled performed the track at this year's Grammys.

"It was nice of DJ Khaled to sit down and write and perform and record that - that was good of him! He's an incredibly talented man," said Jack, in full-on sarcasm mode.

"He [DJ Khaled] said: 'They told me I would never be on the Grammys.' Really? Like, 'Hey, man, like, I know you're headed to lunch, but I just wanted to let you know that you'll never be on the Grammys!'"

Elsewhere, Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas also had some words for today's pop artists.

    3) Cabbage are on a 'secret public enemy list' *

Not many bands have 36 released tracks and well over 200 gigs to their name BEFORE releasing their debut record.

Manchester shock rockers Cabbage are not any band though.

Their debut, Nihilistic Glamour Shots, arrives on 30 March.

The band have found themselves embroiled in two media storms already in their short career, after an alleged sexual assault at a gig - which was denied by the band and not taken any further by authorities - and a spectacular fall-out with The Sun newspaper.

Singer Lee Broadbent says: "It feels like we were put on some sort of secret public enemy list and our time was always going to come when possibly someone was going to strike us."

    4) Has Harry Styles outed himself as bi on his latest track?

The former One Direction heart-throb set more hearts aflutter this week (of all sexes and genders) when he performed his new track Medicine during a gig in Paris on Tuesday night.

The track apparently contains the lyrics:The boys and the girls are in / I’ll mess around with them / And I’m OK with it

Harry, who has been in public relationships with the likes of Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Caroline Flack, has never officially put a label on his sexuality... nor should he be expected to.

Nevertheless, social media has been quick to react.

  3. Neil Young: 'When I retire... I'll be dead'published at 15:18 GMT 16 March 2018

Neil Young is everywhere. The man must have spent two days locked in a hotel in Texas room doing interviews.

It's all part of push to publicise his new film, Paradox, which premiered at SXSW on Thursday.

The film, written and directed by his partner, actress Daryl Hannah (of Splash fame), stars Young as The Man in the Black Hat: the leader of a band of outlaws that include his band, Promise of the Real, living off the land in a world where seeds have become the currency.

    Eh?

The Guardian describes it as "a wild ride that's difficult for outsiders to follow".

Of her new album, her first new music since 2012, she said: "It's been a long time, and a lot has changed in my life.

  9. Conductor James Levine sues New York Metpublished at 12:59 GMT 16 March 2018

    James LevineImage source, Getty Images

James Levine, one of America’s most renowned conductors, is suing New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

The conductor was fired earlier this week after an internal inquiry found "credible evidence" to support claims he sexually abused young male musicians.

Mr Levine, who denies the allegations, is seeking more than £4 million in damages.

The 74-year-old conductor contends there was nothing in his contract which allowed the Met to dismiss him. He also alleges the New York opera house, with whom he had a 10-year contract, had a plan to erase his legacy.

Levine’s allegations against the Met were denied in a statement by its lawyer, Betsy Plevan.

"It is shocking that Mr Levine has refused to accept responsibility for his actions, and has today instead decided to lash out at the Met with a suit riddled with untruths.

"There is no basis for Mr Levine's assertion that the Met was on a vendetta against him, when in fact the Met supported him through prolonged and repeated periods of illness that kept him from the podium."

Four men have accused Mr Levine of sexually abusing them decades ago. Some say they were teenagers at the time.

The conductor has previously called the accusations "unfounded".

Mr Levine has led more than 2,500 performances at the Met. He has struggled with Parkinson's disease and other health issues and now conducts from a motorised wheelchair.

  11. Birthday tributes to Lord Lloyd Webberpublished at 12:02 GMT 16 March 2018

    Nicole ScherzingerImage source, Getty Images

Nicole Scherzinger and Lana Del Rey are getting in early and have joined in tributes to musical maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber on his 70th birthday - a week ahead of the big day.

"Happy Birthday Andrew. Thank you for everything you continue to do for me, for music and this world in art and theatre," said the former Pussycat Doll.

Scherzinger is among the stars to feature on his latest compilation album, Unmasked, covering hits from Lord Lloyd Webber's best-loved musicals.

"It's hard for me to fathom that I'm a part of one of Andrew's career defining albums. That is in itself career defining for me. It's a dream, and a lifelong accomplishment," she gushed.

Del Rey contributes an original recording of You Must Love Me, from Evita. She described Lord Lloyd Webber as one of her "primary inspirations in music".

Also paying tribute were musical stars Michael Crawford and Elaine Paige, as well as Hollywood leading lady, Glenn Close.

"Because of Andrew, I was able to play one of the most iconic roles ever written for a woman...twice," said Close.

"Portraying Norma Desmond while singing the notes Andrew wrote for her, has been one of the defining challenges of my career.

"Andrew is a genius and I am blessed to be one of his devoted acolytes."

Not bad, making an acolyte of one of the world's most famous 'bunny boilers'! As long as you stay on her good side...

    Jarvis CockerImage source, Getty Images

Jarvis Cocker loves his trees, but he's not committing to becoming a 'gecko' or a 'gnome' just yet...

The former Pulp frontman and BBC 6 Music presenter will be dj-ing at a one-off gig tonight at Sheffield's City Hall to help raise money for the Sheffield Tree Action Group.

The city - Cocker's hometown - has already seen the council cut down more than 5,000 trees since 2012, with a further 11,000 under threat.

It's part of the council's £2bn Streets Ahead project, aimed at improving roads and footpaths in the city

    Cocker says it's "daft":

"People are protesting about the scale at which this is going on," Cocker told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"Trees are important, they produce the air that keeps us alive."

However, asked if he was willing to become a gecko (clinging to a wall to protect a nearby tree) or a gnome (sitting under a threatened tree), he stalled.

"That's interesting... I hope to see some examples of that," he mused, adding "I'll see whether I get inspired."

Friday's concert, Get Off Our Tree!, external, will also feature Richard Hawley, John McClure and Nick Banks on DJ duties, while The Everly Pregnant Brothers will play live.

    RihannaImage source, Getty Images

Rihanna has called out Snapchat over an advert that made light of the domestic abuse she suffered at the hands of former partner - and fellow singer - Chris Brown in 2009.

The popular social media platform featured an advert for a game called "Would You Rather?", showing the two singers, and asking Snapchat users whether they would rather "slap Rihanna" or "punch Chris Brown"?

“I’d love to call it ignorance but I know you ain’t that dumb!,” Rihanna wrote in a statement, posted to her Instagram Stories, external.

In 2009, Brown was convicted after he hit, choked and bit Rihanna, and tried to push her out of a car. He eventually pleaded guilty to felony assault and received five years of probation.

A spokesperson for Snapchat apologised, adding that the ad had been removed from the platform as soon as they became aware of it.

"This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service," the spokesperson said. "We made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process."
