In a nutshell, a late surge from Bruno Mars stopped Kendrick Lamar from stealing the show on an evening of fine performances, as the industry wore white roses to stand up to sexual harassment and gender inequality.

So it's all over for another year and we've been there every step of the way.

But we weren't the only ones, here are some more thoughts on "the biggest night in music".

Vulture lists its highs and lows, external from the event. Sample low: "Even if you’re a U2 fan, three appearances by Bono and The Edge is a lot.

"No performance from Lorde but two from U2? No love for SZA but thrice we heard from Bono?"

The Washington Post listed its performances from best to worst, external - not great news for Sam Smith, it writes:"This performance was full of finger-wagging and disappointed head nods that would put a grandmother to shame."

The Vox lists three reasons, external why the Grammys 2018 fell flat: "Torn between being a celebratory night jam-packed with fiery performances and a somber reflection on The World Today, the Grammys ended up just floundering somewhere in the middle."

We've dressed down for our overnight shift but the likes of Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey and Cardi B did anything but.

Well, lucky old Bruno has six memories to take with him tonight but what about the other stars in attendance.

For Lorde's co-writer it was a Broadway legend in fine form while for Bryson Tiller, Ri Ri and DJ K helped to give him "one of the best days of my life."

For Gaga though, it was all about the dress.

With eight nominations,Jay-Z was out in front at this year's awards but lost out in every single category.

Apparently that makes him one of the biggest on-the-night losers in Grammys history.

Not that he seemed too concerned.

Last year, Kanye West and Rihanna both went home empty-handed after the same number of nominations, while Sir Paul McCartney apparently lost from nine nominations in 1966.

Amidst the celebrations for Bruno Mars, the lack of female artists winning any of the major categories has been picked up on social media.

Women accounted for just 17 wins out of 86 at this year's Grammys.

A sad statement of fact considering the power of Kesha's performance (above)

Well it wasn't quite Adele v Beyonce from last year...

But none the less Bruno Mars' last minute album of the year winner saw him pull off a mini-shock over the critically-lauded Kendrick Lamar.

Bruno Mars again.

He's defied all the critics to beat Kendrick to the final award of the night and steal a dramatic 6-5 victory at the death.

"Don't cut me off Grammys please," Bruno pleaded, after having earlier been somewhat curtailed in his acceptance speech.

"I've been drinking a little bit and celebrating," he confessed, before telling a heart-warming tale about how his 15-year-old self used to sing for his supper to tourists in Hawaii.

Apparently, all he's ever wanted to do is share the love and make people dance.

Oh and "sprinkle Mars sauce" on his favourite tracks.

He was given his award by Bono and The Edge from U2 who stressed what a "big big deal" the award was and how important it is not to come out on stage "like an ass".

The singer performs rapper Logic's suicide prevention track 1-800-273-8255 alongside another new artist nominee Khalid who has failed to convert any of his five nominations.

The trio are backed up by a huge group of suicide survivors and friends and relatives of suicide victims standing silent, wearing t-shirt that bear the slogan 'You Are Not Alone'.

The Maryland-born rapper finishes the track with an impassioned plea, saying "Bring us you're tired, you're poor and any immigrant that seeks refuge."

This is what young people are talking about when they say 'woke'.

Tonight, we've already seen tributes to two rock 'n' roll greats that we lost last year in Chuck Berry and Fats Domino.

Now a third - Tom Petty - has been honoured with an acoustic performance of his track Wildflowers, by country album winner Chris Stapleton and all round country legend Emmlyou Harris.

The Academy then rattled through a montage of other stricken artists from the past 12 months; including Glen Campbell, Joni Sledge, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington.

She missed out on the best new artist, by a singer whose album was out in 2016, but SZA proved her mettle with a great solo performance of Broken Clocks.

Its a confident performance by a woman whose star is most definitely on the rise, even if it does look like someone has attacked her trousers and top with a hedge strimmer.

We even have a shower of sparks raining down on the stage.

That's five for Bruno now, which puts him level with Ken.

He thanked "My lady Jessica for being my rock" and his dear old dad, saying; "Look at me Pop, I'm at The Grammys!"

He was presented with his award by Alicia Keys, who said she prefers it when the Grammys are in her home city and not in LA as normal.

We never knew Alicia loved New York so much, she's never mentioned it before, external...

Wow, this lady has some pipes at the age of 68, singing the song which helped win her a Tony Award for her role as Eva Peron in the 1979 original Broadway production of Evita.

Madonna went on to play the role in the 1996 film adaptation.

It's part of a tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Apparently the pair of them haven't spoken, external in two decades.

Miley Cyrus lends her trademark growl to Tiny Dancer in a performance celebrating Sir Elton John's five-decade-long career.

It also acts as a trailer for the all-star Elton concert that takes place on Tuesday, also organised by the Grammys, which will be televised at a later date.

Nice to have a song your mum will know in the middle of all this hullaballoo, huh?

It's taken two and a half hours but the US President finally get a mention in a skit about a future nominee for spoken word album.

Cue stars like Snoop, John Legend, DJ Khaled and Cardi B reading extracts from the Michael Wolff book Fire and Fury.

"This is how he lives his life?" asks a staggered Cardi, at the thought of his eating a cheeseburger in bed at 6.30pm.

The sketch comes to an end with his failed presidential candidate rival Hillary Clinton asking whether it will really win a Grammy.
