However, in a two-star review, external, Fiona Mountford of the Evening Standard said the show's songs "have a little of Parton's usual sprinkling of stardust" but only two songs stand out.

Her review was echoed by John Nathan's two-star in the Metro, external.

"Even if country music queen Dolly Parton herself had been cast," he wrote, "she couldn't have saved this vapid, musical version of her 1980 movie."

The Times' Dominic Maxwell said in his three-star write up the "warm, larger-than-life, slightly overblown comic feel...rarely takes you by surprise, but it never really lets you down either."

Writing's On the Wall may have given Sam Smith an Oscar for best original song but he has since revealed he was unhappy with his live performance of the song during the 2016 awards show.

But the good news is that it wasn't his fault, he was given the wrong earpiece.

"I’d rehearsed for three days and I’d got given the wrong pack, so my mix in my ears, I got given my pianist’s pack,” he has told Will Young’s Homo Sapiens podcast, external.

"As soon as the song started all I could hear was the piano and the orchestra and my voice was like this tiny little sound in the back.

He admitted the song is "hard to sing" but added, "I got through it but I walked off stage I was a mess."

We hope the producers have got things smoothed out for this weekend's Oscars where Bette Midler is one of the performers (scroll down for more on that).

When the documentary Surviving R Kelly premiered in New York in December, the screening room had to be evactuated because of an anonymous gun threat.

For Jesse Daniels, one of the documentary series' executive producers, that "was a big wake-up call... that this was very serious".

In the audience were some of the women interviewed for the series, who have accused R Kelly of sexual and physical abuse, claims he denies.

"We were very worried for them and their safety," says Jesse, adding he had concerns about "triggering new feelings and emotions on top of everything that they've already been through".

The documentary makers say they have an ongoing responsibility to look after the women who are asked to describe accusations of abuse and imprisonment in detail on camera.

"We constantly still check in with our survivors," Jesse tells Newsbeat.

Tamra Simmons, another executive producer of the documentary, says she has had messages from survivors of sexual assault since the series aired in the US.

"A lot of them didn't have any therapy for 15 years and thought they were over it," she told Newsbeat.

"Once they watched the documentary, they realised they weren't over it and it was kind of just swept under the rug.

"Now they have this courage to be able to speak out."

The Scots singer-songwriter has called his forthcoming debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.

It's due out on 17 May.

He's also announced a UK headline tour and charted at number three with his single Someone You Loved on Friday.

"Everyone always tells you about how amazing recording their first album was and how they’ll always look back on the ‘process’ with fond memories," he has told fans in a refreshingly honest open letter.

"I will look back on it as an extremely stressful time that somehow also managed to be extremely boring.

"The actual process of building the songs up I loved, but recording the same guitar parts over and over again to get them right and going back on mixes for weeks, I did not.

He added: "I hope people don’t think it’s [expletive]. I mean don’t get me wrong there will be one or two stinkers on there, but I’m only human and we all make mistakes, but as a whole I think it’s pretty good."

He's the kind of pop star we need right now and has done very well since his fish shop days.
