The handwriting of David Bowie, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg have been turned into fonts.

French designers Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens have painstakingly developed "Songwriters Font" - downloadable typefaces based on the handwriting of the legendary songwriters.

Before you start branding your company with the penmanship of Cohen or Cobain, bear in mind that the fonts are for personal use, so can’t be used for commercial purposes.

The actor, who starred in the big screen adaptation of Nick Hornby's ode to lovelorn music mad middle aged men, thinks that any remake might miss "the majic mix".

On Friday we told you how, according to a report on movie site Deadline, the studio is working on a new revamp, featuring all females in the lead roles.

John clarified that he has no problem with that aspect of the remake, however.

Moreover it's the omission of the 1995 novel's esteemed writer that concerns him.

Chvrches have donated money to a project which encourages girls to get into the music industry after it lost its funding.

Girls Rock Glasgow failed to secure sponsorship from Creative Scotland - which led to concerns its summer school wouldn't go ahead this year.

Lead singer Lauren Mayberry said the project shows girls there are "options for them" in the music industry.

She added: "We were really happy to help in even a tiny way."

Girls Rock Glasgow, which started in 2014, is an organisation which runs a summer school where girls can learn instruments, form a band, make art and merchandise.

Lauren said the band wanted to help because on tour it's a "predominantly male society and that's not reflective of the world is like at large".

"When we play at venues or festivals and things, you pretty much never see female crews or female session musicians.

"This camp is really cool because it shows girls these are options for them. Those choices should start from the grassroots up.

"Young girls are maybe a bit less inclined to put themselves forward for those kind of things because it does seem like a hostile environment in a lot of ways.

"I feel like we should tell young girls and young boys that there are a lot of options available to them. We were really happy to help in even a tiny way."

The Scots band approached the school after Lauren saw on Twitter they were struggling to get enough money to run the event.

"I've been to one of the day sessions they had before.

"The things they offer and the smiles on the kids' faces would melt your heart so I thought I would message them and see how much they'd applied for.

"We were like 'well, this costs less one of Iain's [Cook, the keyboard player and guitarist in the band] synthesisers' so it just seemed that it would be a really valuable thing to do."

One of the school's organisers, Susan Bear, told Newsbeat: "It was amazing that Chrvches stepped in with their very generous offer.

"Their donation means we can offer more places than any years before and we'll be able to buy more equipment.

"We'll also be able to do more outreach work, getting more girls involved.

"Music is still incredibly male-dominated and for young girls to be in safe space to be creative and confident means they can see this is a possibility for them."

BBC Radio 1 has announced a major overhaul of its line-up, with the weekend schedule now starting on Fridays.

Nick Grimshaw, Clara Amfo and Greg James will go down to hosting four shows a week as a result.

New Friday shows have been announced for Maya Jama and The Saturdays' Mollie King as part of the changes, and Scott Mills will now host the chart show.

This marks the first time in Radio 1's history that the daytime DJs will be on a four-day week, although Chris Evans once tried to take Fridays off when he was hosting the breakfast show.

In the late 1990s, he famously asked if he could host the programme only from Monday to Thursday - a request which was denied by then-controller Matthew Bannister.

Jama joined the station earlier this year as the presenter of Radio 1's Greatest Hits.

King has been appearing as a guest presenter with Edmondson in recent weeks but will now officially be a permanent fixture on the station.

The singer, who appeared on the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing, said: "I've grown up listening to Radio 1 and I can't wait to be one of the team.

"This is an absolute dream for me! The only person more excited than me is my mum - who is delighted I finally have a proper job."

Scott Mills said: "I was sat with my mum when I got this news, and she actually cried because I've been pretending to do the chart show on Radio 1 since I was 8-years-old.

"I've filled in on the show so much over the years, and I can't believe it's actually mine. I'm beyond excited."

The new schedule comes into effect in June.

Pop diva Anastacia and former Westlife star Shane Filan are probably dancing on the ceiling right now, having been confirmed to join Lionel Richie on his UK All The Hits tour this summer.

The string of shows will kick off at Frankin's Gardens in Northampton on Friday, June 1.

Anastacia will perform on opening night, as well as in Perth, Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Chesterfield.

Shane Filan will join him in Leigh, Carlisle, Hove and Holkham.

For some artists finding the strength, confidence and space to be truly themselves on stage can be a problem.

Nerves can get in the way, as can egos at the other end of the spectrum - while serving other people's expectations provides a problem somewhere in between.

Danish artist Sophia Maj, however, believes that she may have found a creative way around these stumbling blocks.

How?

By becoming a different entity entirely.

Ellis May, external is the alias of the musician, composer, producer and sound designer, whose haunting neo trip hop beats come to us straight out of Copenhagen.

Her music, which has drawn comparisons to British 90s acts Portishead and Massive Attack, was showcased at this year's Eurosonic Festival, where Denmark was 2018’s featured nation.

But where does Sophia end and Ellis begin?

"That's a good question" she told us at the festival a few months back.

"I’m trying to look at Ellis May like a place where I go to. It’s not a persona.

"It’s a place where I express myself freely, so I try to see it as that.

"That’s what Ellis May does to me - it gives me the freedom to perform and just be there, be present and perform.

"There’s no limits at all. I try to have open endings to everything because I want it to be everything and all that I feel or experience.

"I’m not trying to make it sound like anything in particular - I’m just trying to catch a feeling."

Sophia, sorry, Ellis's sound was described by the Groningen event as "fragile, dark and doomy songwriting".

It's not a tagline that the childhood Faithless and Prodigy fan would choose for herself, as she recalls her teenage mobile raves.

But the above description is one that Sophia, who also cites PJ Harvey as a huge influence, is slowly beginning to understand.

"You know it’s really funny when I write these songs I’m always very positive.

"I’m not trying to have a traumatic feel to write from. I only write from positivity.

"I’m always surprised that people find it so dark but I guess it is!"

She added: "I find people [at her shows are] very moved.

"But that’s also why I do it and why I want to keep doing it and give them what I have from my core.

"I want to keep that personal contact, it’s very important for me."

The multi-talented artist released new single River of Doubt (above) a few weeks back and plans to release an EP and some new tour dates soon.

A holistic sound and vision approach to her work and live shows, learned at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, means that it may take Sophia a little longer than most bands to channel her Ellis act in full.

But the potentially great Dane - who will perform at Roskilde Festival in her native country this summer - feels that the combined result is worth the wait, if not hard to put into words.

"It sounds wonderful just showing up and playing songs but that doesn’t work me!

"The visual side is also part of the expression of what I’m doing.

"I’m just keeping all of the items that I really love and feel to express this thing that I’m trying to express."

Country superstar Carrie Underwood is poised for a major comeback, having taken five months away from the spotlight to recover from a horrible fall which left her needing between 40 to 50 stitches in her face, as well as surgery on her wrist.

She's set to debut her new single at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on 15 April.

It will be her first performance since the accident.

Earlier in the week, the singer teased fans that a comeback was on the horizon, posting a photo in the recording studio as well as a rehearsal shot.

Underwood revealed to her fan club earlier this year that her injuries may cause her to look “not quite the same” as she did before the “freak random accident.”

The star-studded line-up for this year's ACMs will see Underwood perform alongside artists including Kelsea Ballerini, Kelly Clarkson, Little Big Town and Miranda Lambert.

It's been quite a week for US rapper Cardi B.

Yesterday we brought you news of her big pregnancy reveal on Saturday Night Live, and she's exploded on to the US album charts with her debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

Last night she continued to make headlines, creating US TV history as the first co-host of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Along with performances and games, Cardi joined Fallon for the opening monologue, where they poked fun at US President Donald Trump and his rather tight-fitting coat.

The New York rapper first appeared on the show in December, and her interview - complete with her own unique brand of sound effects - became a viral hit amassing over 16 million views.

Last night's highlight had to be Cardi's explanation of her various catchphrases including "okuuurt".

And to top off the Cardi love, she closed the episode with the TV debut of her new single, Money Bag.

All that's left to achieve this week is for her album to go to number one and at this rate we wouldn't bet against it.

Good news and bad news for Luis Fonsi today.

Firstly his global smash hit Latino track Despacito became the first music video to reach five billion views on Youtube.

Now here's the rub... It then got hacked by those rather menacing looking people above.

The Despacito video has now been removed, but its cover image had shown the hackers; who operate under the names Prosox and Kuroi'sh, wearing masks and pointing guns.

They had written "Free Palestine" underneath the videos.

More than a dozen other artists, including Shakira, Selena Gomez, Drake and Taylor Swift were also affected by the hack job.

The original clips had been posted by Vevo.

The BBC has contacted both YouTube and Vevo for comment.

A Twitter account that apparently belongs to one of the hackers posted, external: "It's just for fun, I just use [the] script 'youtube-change-title-video' and I write 'hacked'."

Kesha continues her support for the LGBTQ community in her new music video.

The I Need a Woman to Love video sees the pop diva officiate a same-sex wedding in Las Vegas, which she has been busy tweeting about...

The song is a re-imagining of Janis Joplin’s classic rock song “I Need a Man to Love” but with gender-switched pronouns.

The emotional video celebrates the marriage of Dani and Lindsay who saw Kesha perform back in 2015 at a Pride event, which was plagued by anti-LGBT protesters.

They recall seeing her draped in a rainbow flag and saying that while the protesters may be out there, "in here it's all love."

"This will be my third same-sex marriage," Kesha says in the video. "Just gonna assume this goes according to plan."

The marriage ceremony took place at the Bellagio hotel in Vegas on 26 March - the anniversary of the first-ever marriage license issued to a same-sex couple in the United States.

The song is part of MGM Resorts' Universal Love EP which re-works wedding and other classic love songs to make them more LGBTQ-inclusive.

Universal Love also features Bob Dylan, St. Vincent, Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, Bloc Party front man Kele Okereke and Valerie June.

Isaac Gracie's life changed forever the day his voice broke.

From the age of seven, the London-born singer had been a chorister, rehearsing and performing six times a week with the Ealing Abbey Choir, external.

"I was in the full cassocks and everything," remembers the 23-year-old. "And by the end of it I had a big, fat chain because I was the [head chorister].

"I was the Flavor Flav, external of the choir. It was pretty cool."

In his teens, Gracie could hit the notoriously difficult High C in Gregorio Allegri's Miserere Mei, external.

"Then all of a sudden one Sunday, your voice doesn't go there," he grimaces.

"That's a traumatic experience that no-one really talks about. I had to leave the choir."

Gracie intended to wait until he was 18 and could re-join the group as a tenor... But then he discovered the guitar.

Frontman Robert Smith has given a rather rare interview this morning, to 6 Music, ahead of what's shaping up to be a rather big summer.

Smith will personally curate this year's Meltdown Festival , externalon London's Southbank in June before his band play their 40th anniversary gig in the capital's Hyde Park the following month.

The king of the goths has been talking Matt Everitt through their epic-sounding plans for the gig and even cast his mind back to their first ever one at The Rocket pub in West Sussex in 1976.

Sounds like we'll all be able to cast our ears back to that very gig soon too... Listen above for why.

The 58-year-old went on to explain that he's fallen in love with writing songs again and will record/play some new tunes this summer - and also revealed that he was willing to give a little Kent band called The Rolling Stones the chance to perform at Meltdown.

More special Cure gigs are in the pipeline for next year already too.

Harmonizers worldwide shed a tear last month when the band announced a One Direction-style "hiatus" after six years together.

But it looks like Normani Khordei's solo stint is already off to a flying start, with news that she has signed a deal with Keep Cool/RCA Records.

In yesterday's MNL we had breaking news of the Arctic Monkeys first UK tour to go with forthcoming new album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

The band announced that they'll hit the road in September, including a two night stop in their home city of Sheffield.

Standing tickets cost as much as £70 on some websites.

Some quick-witted fans have expressed their dismay by paraphrasing some of the band's previous hits.

At that price, as one fan points out, the band must now be officially twice as good as they were during the tour for their last album; 2013's AM.

Pound for pound.

Others, however, are determined to ensure that they're there at any cost.
