    Loyle Carner

    That's it for today.

We wonder what rising London hip hop star Loyle Carner (above) makes of the news that the US has its first #1 female rapper in nearly 20 years?

Probably a fan. He did rap with Kate Tempest after all.

Scroll down for more on that news plus how you can get your hands on some of Noel Gallagher's surplus guitar/amp collection, new music from Chance the Rapper, the end of the line gigs for Wild Beasts and Scots rockers Runrig and and much more within...

Back to Loyle before we go, as a chance discussion online has led to him exchanging tickets for his current UK tour for retro football shirts from fans.

This 90s England away number gets you a pint thrown in for good measure. So get digging in those kitbags people.

    See you tomorrow.

Sadly for rapper Post Malone, Cyndi Lauper was nowhere to be seen at his gig in St Louis on Sunday night.

A stage dive always seems like a good idea but the artist and the crowd both need to agree on the timing.

    Or this happens.

After years out of the limelight with debilitating vocal problems - brought on by the collapse of her marriage - Shania Twain is back.

She has a new husband, a new fifth studio album (called Now) and a new voice (which has unlocked "smokier sounds").

BBC News reporter Neil Smith caught up with the 52-year-old country star during a hectic week of promo to find out about all of the above.

Plus how she "actually borrowed the Man! I Feel Like A Woman outfit for the video, top hat and all,".

Hearing The National's recent UK #1 album Sleep Well Beast and seeing its songs performed live are - in themselves - two very different beasts all together.

The Ohio indie rockers have a reputation for producing subtle indie records for adults. But by only the second song (The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness, external) of their four-night London residency, singer Matt Berninger's voice threatens to break through sheer raw emotion as he writhes around the mic stand and stage before descending into the crowd at the Hammersmith Apollo.

The 46-year-old singer stalks the stage and his band and berates the sound guy like a strict-but-cool art teacher keeping an eye on his students. All while guzzling glasses of wine and throwing them into the crowd, in between bellowing out heartfelt anthems about coming up short, being alone and one's mind not being right.

Bloodbuzz Ohio, which was voted as the 4th best song ever played on 6 Music by listeners a few years back, provides one of the highlights.

To give you an idea of his manic movements and mood on the night, here's Matt below in his pre-show defensive crouch...

America don't really have a massive sensitive rock band akin to Radiohead, but if they were to launch a competition to find one, then The National would surely be the favourites. They even have two sets of siblings, to Radiohead's one...one of which enjoy a spot of dueling guitars near the end of the set, while the other keeps the rhythm section locked down.

The band thank "one of our favourite bands" support act This Is The Kit, before welcoming them back on stage to sing new track Born To Beg with them.

After that The National then abandon another new song Empire Line midway through. "That would've been terrible," says Matt, after a mini tantrum brings the song to a premature end.

It all just adds to the drama though as the band finish with a rousing rendition of their 2007 cult classic Fake Empire, before disappearing off stage and leaving fans to enjoy the ultra modern delights of the backstage cameras on a big screen, as the band mill about.

They return for a joyous four-song encore, which culminates with the politically-charged Mr November from 2005 album Alligator.

If Matt's voice can stand another three nights of such theatrics, then the US band will surely confirm themselves as (inter)National treasures on these shores.

We're so glad that he's doing this. There really aren't enough hip hop stars questioning well-proven scientific facts.

US rapper B.o.B. is crowd-funding the launch of satellites to see if he can get some evidence that the earth is indeed flat (it isn't).

B.o.B whose real name is Bobby Ray Simmons Jr, has been a vocal proponent of the Flat Earth theory - the claim the Earth is, in fact, a disc (it isn't) and not spherical (it is).

"Show me the curve" he says.

"I'm starting this GoFundMe because I would like to send one, if not multiple satellites, as far into space as I can, or into orbit as I can, to find the curve," he said in a video on the page.

"I'm looking for the curve," he added.

This news has sent the Twittersphere into meltdown.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson for one, was only too happy to oblige B.o.B with an explanation as to exactly where the curve is.

Decide for yourself who to belief (the scientist).

We imagine that not a day goes past without Chance the Rapper knocking out a new tune.

    Well, now you can.

The 50-year-old, who yesterday announced a new album and tour, is having a clear out next month and selling off a load of musical equipment used during the Britpop giants' heyday and beyond.

It's good to have a clear out once in a while.

Noel's old guitars, amps and other equipment will be up for grabs on the online music marketing site Reverb, external from 2 October.

In a statement, Noel said: “When you’ve been playing as long as I have, you tend to amass a huge amount of gear, and it’s not doing me or anyone else any good if it’s just sitting around.

These pieces have a lot history, but they’re still very playable — I’d love to get them into the hands of someone who will put them to good use.”

Presumably someone with a lot of money who can put them to good use.

Okay here comes the geeky tech bit...

The Noel Gallagher collection includes VOX, Fender, HiWatt, Orange, and Marshall amps, a late-1990s Mellotron Mk VI and a 1960s Epiphone Professional guitar and amp set (below).

How cool would this look in your spare room. Just make sure you turn it up to 11, yeah?

Actress and singer Samantha Barks, who first appeared on the BBC talent search I'd Do Anything in 2008 (above) has just landed a plum role as Vivian Ward, the character played by Julia Roberts, in a new musical version of the film Pretty Woman.

She will star opposite Tony Award winner Steve Kazee as wealthy businessman Edward Lewis - played in the movie by Richard Gere.

The rom-com, about a Hollywood Boulevard prostitute who gets rescued by a wealthy businessman and then "rescues him right back" was a massive hit at the cinema in 1990.

The stage music could open in spring 2018 in Chicago before moving to Broadway.

It will be Samantha's Broadway debut. She appeared in the West End production of Les Miserable and starred in the Bafta-winning and Oscar-nominated 2012 movie adaptation.

After 15 years together, Wild Beasts have announced their split as they tell BBC 6 Music

After 15 years together, Wild Beastsannounced on Monday they'll be "coming to an end".

Some pretty high profile fans were left shocked and saddened by the news but the Kendal indie band have promised that a further announcement about "celebrations" will follow.

BBC 6 Music's Elizabeth Alker spoke to singer Hayden who popped into the BBC to discuss their decision and said he's been "humbled" by the love that has come their way since the announcement.

He said the band owed it to each other to disappear at the right time.

Hayden said: "Well, our band was a belief system, it was a lifestyle and identity.

"We didn't want to lead double lives. It was our entire being."

He added: "Relationships within a band are as intimate and close and as powerful as any you'll ever have. There's a huge amount of mutual love and respect and I think that's what you're seeing, that love and respect play out."
