    Now this is pretty special.

    It's BBC Music Day next week and to help kick start proceedings Manchester indie band The Courteeners have just performed the Stone Roses classic This Is The One alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

    It was part of 5 Live's Friday Sports Panel Music Day special and the track was selected by singer Liam Fray, as it's the song his favourite football team Manchester United run out to.

    Ignore that part City/Liverpool fans and just enjoy the music.

    Liam and co appeared on the show alongside fellow musician Will Young, Commonwealth silver medallist long jumper (and budding singer/guitarist herself) Jasmin Sawyers and Olympic Gold Medallist Chris Mears.

  3. Sound of 2017 winner Ray BLK is back with the Hottest Recordpublished at 15:24 BST 8 June 2017

    Ray BLK, who won the BBC's Sound of 2017 poll earlier this year is coming good after her latest track Doing Me was named last night's Hottest Record by Radio 1's MistaJam.

    "I did a tour with Emeli Sande and besides that I've been hiding in the studio," she told him.

    "The (new) song is literally what it says on the tin, it's about being yourself, doing what it is that makes you happy and not trying to follow the crowd.

    "It's about self-acceptance but also saying 'bye' to the haters."

    Canadian songstress Feist gave US late show host Stephen Cobert his big musical break when she performed her new track Century on his show earlier this week.

    The singer recruitred the host to perform the spoken word outro to the song, which in her album, is performed by Jarvis Cocker.

    Coldplay, followed by Adele, Olly Murs and Little Mix, have topped a chart of the most played artists of 2016.

    The data, shared by PPL - the body which ensures artists royalties get paid - also showed two of Coldplay's tracks are in the top ten of the most played songs.

    The rest of the top ten is dominated by American artists with Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop The Feeling at number one.

    The success of British artists delivered a record year for music licensing in 2016 with more than £212m collected.

    At a time of life when most people are slowing down, Alice Cooper is teaching us all how to grow old disgracefully.

    The 69-year-old veteran rocker is playing his first UK tour in five years later this year and is due to release a new album with his original band.

    Speaking to Chris Evans on Radio 2, he said the thing that kept him going was that rock music "has never changed".

    "It's got a life on its own, you can just keeping doing this forever as long as your body holds up.

    "This tour is five continents, 130 shows, I'm one of those die-hard hard rockers."

  14. Phil Collins postpones RAH gig after a fall in hotelpublished at 12:49 BST 8 June 2017

    Phil Collins has postponed two shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London after fall at his hotel left him with a head injury requiring emergency medical treatment.

    The singer-songwriter was due to to play the celebrated venue tonight and Friday night.

    A statement on his Facebook page, external, said: "Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk.

    "He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair.

    He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours."

    The statement adds the shows will be rearranged for 26-27 November an tickets for the postponed shows will still be valid.

    The musician is still set to continue his tour in Cologne, Germany at the weekend and is due back in the capital to headline the British Summertime event in Hyde Park on 30 June.

    Ariana Grande has resumed her European tour in Paris, just over two weeks after the terrorist attack at her Manchester Arena concert.

    Twenty-two people were killed and 116 injured in a suicide bombing after her gig on 22 May.

    The singer returned to the stage at last Sunday's One Love Manchester benefit gig.

    "First show back tonight. Thinking of our angels every step of the way. I love you with all my heart," the singer posted next to a picture of the Eiffel tower on Instagram, external.

    "Grateful for and incredibly proud of my band, dancers and entire crew. I love you I love you."

    The countdown to their Glastonbury headline set is on... so lucky you if you're going to be there.

    With that in mind, 6 Music's Matt Everitt caught up with Thom Yorke from the band to discuss all things music, politics and Glastonbury.

    Their last Glastonbury headline set in 1997 came just two weeks after they'd finished recording their seminal album OK Computer and was beset by technical problems and stress on weariness on Thom's part.

    At one point I just went over to Ed [O'Brien, guitarist]. I tapped him on the shoulder and said, 'I'm off mate, see you later."

    He added: "He turned around and went, 'If you do, you'll probably live the rest of your life regretting it.'

    Despite all that it went down as a pretty legendary gig, with Glasto organizer Michael Eavis putting it in his top five, external Worthy Farm moments ever.

    There were Signs of Life in Scunthorpe last night.

    Calm down, that's the name of the new Arcade Fire track which got its live debut in the Lincolnshire town.

    The Montreal indie rockers last week cryptically revealed the details of their new album Everything Now during a secret set at Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona.

    Now fans in Scunthorpe got to witness the premiere of one of the band's latest cuts, taken off the album which arrives on 28 June.

    Following trials at the Secret Garden Party and Kendall Calling there are growing calls for UK festivals to provide drug-testing services.

    The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) says stronger ecstasy in the UK is resulting in "serious health harm".

    Tests were piloted at Secret Garden Party and Kendall Calling festivals in 2016, allowing festival-goers to be able to test their drugs on site to make sure they aren't carrying dangerous substances.

    Secret Garden Party founder Freddie Fellowes told Newsbeat the trial was "a wide success".

    There was a case of some anti-malaria drugs being powdered up and sold as cocaine.

    "We also came across someone who was selling ecstasy tablets that turned out to be 100% concrete."
