Following on from yesterday's story about singer Kate Nash taking Buzzfeed to task over a listicle suggesting she only existed in the minds of millennials, entertainment reporter Annabel Rackham has been having a look at the other names mentioned in said listicle.

They include Ms Dynamite, Blazin' Squad, and Diana Vickers.

Scots punk rocker with a flower in her hair Sandy Thom (pictured above) told the BBC: "I couldn't care less what a journalist writes about me and my career.

"Making music is a privilege and if you can continue to do so throughout your career like all of the artists have been doing that were mentioned in the article, you're one lucky person!"

Fans of the alternative fab four (Mercury, May, Taylor, Deacon) will need no reminding that this Saturday marks 40 years since the release of their classic rock album News of the World.

Their 1977 sixth studio album features the hits We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, to name but two.

With this in mind, Marvel will re-issuing the record on vinyl but with special X Men style artwork (see below).

Selena Gomez and masked producer Marshmello have teamed up on new track Wolves, which you can hear above.

Apparently its all about the thrill of the chase.

"I've been running through the jungle, I've been running with the wolves / To get to you," she sings over the DJ's EDM beats.

Marsh - or maybe even Mello - to his friends, was in the Radio 1 studio earlier this week to 'chat' to Scott Mills.

  8. Grimmy sees figures drop but is praised as 'most relevant' youth brandpublished at 13:40 BST 26 October 2017

Nick Grimshaw and A DotImage source, PA

Nick Grimshaw has recorded the lowest listening figures for BBC Radio 1's breakfast show since he took over the reigns of the show.

The DJ, who replaced Chris Moyles in 2012, saw his audience drop below five million listeners per week in the third quarter of this year.

The show recorded 4.93 million weekly listeners between July and September - down from 5.5 million last quarter.

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said it was still "the most relevant youth brand in the UK today".

By contrast, A.Dot - who co-presents the BBC's new music TV show Sounds Like Friday Night - gave 1Xtra its highest ever audience for its breakfast show, with 390,000 listeners, up 33,000 on the previous three months.

The Radio 2 In Concert series kicks off later with British 80s electro pop pioneers Tears for Fears performing to a live studio audience in the intimate setting of the historic BBC Radio Theatre.

Tears enjoyed a triumphant return to the UK this summer at the BST Festival at Hyde Park and will now perform on Radio 2 tonight before playing London's Royal Albert Hall tomorrow.

The gigs are in support of their new greatest hits collection, which arrives next month, ahead of the release of forthcoming seventh studio album Tipping Point, which we can expect "at some point next year."

It's fair to say the Bath band don't do things by halves.

"We're not sneaking in and doing a club date under a pseudonym. We're coming back all guns blazing," said a rather jet-lagged singer Curt Smith, while apologising for his now "slight mid-Atlantic accent" acquired after ten years living in LA and the previous 20 in New York.

"We just hadn't played here for so long, Hyde Park was fantastic. I'm sure tonight will be fun and the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow, which I'm really looking forward to.

    Quote Message

The Royal Albert Hall is one of those strange venues, where the venue is more important than you are. 1985 was the last time we played there, so it's been a while.

The timing of the release of the new best of, entitled Rule the World, is apparently the record company's way of "re-introducing us to the public."

But if the title one day came true and Curt did in fact rule the world, what would be the first thing he would change?

"Well there's two things. Being the holder of two passports a British one and an American one; Trump and Brexit would be two things I'd change!

    Quote Message

It's a weird time right now where everyone is getting insular and protectionist. I hope that will change. It's very disappointing and confusing for young people. It's also disappointing the disconnect between the older and younger generations."

The Mad World stars will kick the down the Radio 2 door tonight (not literally) for the likes of Deep Purple, Paloma Faith, Liam Gallagher and Chic to follow over the coming weeks.

Be sure to tune in this evening Tears fans, as Curt also hinted there could be more big gig announcements for next year on the way from him and fellow frontman Roland Orzabal.

    Announcements plural...nudge, wink.

You can hear it all unfold on Radio 2 or watch via the Red Button from 20:00 BST.

  15. Paul Weller calls Liam Gallagher's lyrics 'pony' and 'sub-standard'published at 11:09 BST 26 October 2017

    Paul Weller

Liam Gallagher may have had a number one album with debut solo effort As You Were but another British rock 'n' roll icon is not blown away by it apparently.

Speaking to Northern Transmissions’ Records In My Life series, the former Jam man described the lyrics to the ex Oasis singer's new one as "pony" and "sub standard."

Listen from around 7 mins 30 in., external

To make things worse, Weller earlier spoke highly of his brother and #1 frenemy Noel's forthcoming album Who Built The Moon?, which he was "lucky enough to get a copy of".

"I really love that, it's a great record - I've been playing that loads." he said, before the interview turned to the subject of the younger Gallagher's best-selling effort.

"I'm just glad for him that he's got his own thing together and he's out there doing it," he added.

    Liam GallagherImage source, Reuters
    Quote Message

Musically it just sounds like Beady Eye to me, which isn't a bad thing but it wasn't a massive surprise or anything. I think I'm more pleased that he's out there doing it.

"The lyrics are pretty *pony I though. A little bit sub-standard."

Needless to say we can't print Liam's Twitter response but let's just say he claims not to care what the modfather thinks and leave it at that.

*The Urban Dictionary's definition of 'Pony' is: Cockney rhyming slang; "pony-and-trap" - crap.

  19. Fake drug ad could point to new Eminem album called Revivalpublished at 09:45 BST 26 October 2017

    EminemImage source, Getty Images

A mysterious advert, external for a fake drug called Revival has sparked rumours that its part of a complex marketing campaign for a new Eminem album.

The typeface for the drug's name has the letter E backwards, one of Em's signatures.

The website jokingly claims "You should discuss the potential benefits and risks of REVIVAL with your doctor or clergyman.

"REVIVAL is a non-narcotic medication intended for daily use that can be taken with or without food."

It adds: "Tell your doctor about all health conditions, including if you: Have a history of confusion or poor judgment."

But here's the biggest hint surely...

"With Revival, I won't waste my one shot," says an actor in a short film on the website, which is a clear reference to the hip hop star's Eight Mile classic Lose Yourself.

There's certainly a lot for Em to rap about, based on his incendiary freestyle attack on the politics of US President Donald Trump earlier this month.

His last album was 2013’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

On Tuesday, he was awarded more than £300,000 by a New Zealand a political party who ripped off Lose Yourself for an election advert, so we hope the, ahem, Revival drug company have had the references cleared.
