From one great artist to another...

Beck has been selling copies of his new album Colors signed by none other than US rapper MC Hammer.

The new album is out on Friday, so don't forget to check Beck out tonight on Jools Holland's show alongside Robert Planet and St Vincent.

MC Hammer clearly got given his copy early. He's calling it "a great party record" as well as signing copies which are available to buy at Newbury Comics stores in the States.

To avoid disappointment we should say at this point that there is no actual 'Hammer Time' on the record. At all.

In case you missed this one at the time...

For World Mental Health Day today here's another chance to see Jay-Z talk about how he hopes the tragic death of his friend and collaborator Chester Bennington of Linkin Park will serve as a "wake-up call" for people to talk more openly about their feelings.

"You never know what people are going through" said the rapper.

"You think just cos their performers Just because he sold 14 thousand million records...That doesn't equate to happiness. Money or fame.

"That doesn't mean anything if you're not happy inside."

She gave birth to her first child in January but Janet Jackson, at the age of 51, rolled back the years when her tour stopped in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Closing the show with her song Rhythm Nation, she was surrounded by more than two dozen dancers and choreographers from throughout her career for a synchronised rendition of the song’s dance routine.

In its review, Variety said, external: "While it took some work to spot under-30s in the audience, rarely did this show feel like a nostalgia trip," adding "she proved she still has a few new lessons for her heirs".

The LA Times, external said: "Jackson inhabited each song fully, putting across its longing or its resentment with her singing, which appeared to be mostly live, and her sensual yet witty dancing, which made you wonder if any major pop singer has thought more effectively about groove."

His new album As You Were is currently outselling the rest of the UK top 20 albums combined, but Liam Gallagher is currently busy attempting to crack America too.

Last night, the singer performed on the Late Late Show with James Corden, having previously been rather rude about the English host.

Liam told Radio 2's Chris Evans last week that he expected the meeting to "awkward".

However, ever the humble one, LG has held his hands up, calling James "a fine chap", while admitting he "got that 1 wrong".

Something about old dogs and new tricks.

    She said:

    Quote Message

I’ve experienced what it feels like to be a queer black girl growing up in the US. So all I’m thinking about when I write is - is it gonna be a safe thing for them to sing?

"Can they get in their car on a [crappy] day and sing this song and feel really good about it?

"That is basically what I’m trying to make sure of - that even when it’s sad, it’s really empowering somehow."

  7. Neck Deep say clash with gig security was 'regretful and unfortunate'published at 13:32 BST 10 October 2017

    Neck Deep

Welsh rockers Neck Deep have now issued a statement on the clash with the gig security at their show in Nottingham on Monday night, saying it was "regretful and deeply unfortunate".

"Things rapidly escalated to a point that they should never have gotten to," said the band.

"We believe that violence is never a solution, and that everything that went down could and should have been handled better by all parties."

Neck Deep say all music shows "should be a protected and positive environment, where everyone is safe and free to enjoy music being played."

    Quote Message

The safety of our fans is our number one priority, but no-one involved in a show should EVER be in fear of harm or injury - be that fans, crew, venue staff, security or the band."

The band scrapped their show at Nottingham's Rock City with singer Ben Barlow saying "security had messed it up".

Gig-goer Rob Jackson told the BBC he saw one guard "almost body-rolling" people to the floor after fans started crowd-surfing two songs into the set.

Rock City said the staff's response "did not appear disproportionate" (scroll down for their full statement).

Neck Deep say the Nottingham date will be rescheduled and rest of the tour will go ahead as planned and they "will we will be taking extra measures to ensure that these events are never again repeated".

  8. Nothing But Thieves open up on 'masculinity' in rock 'n' rollpublished at 13:11 BST 10 October 2017

    Independent
    Independent

    Nothing But Thieves

More on World Mental Health Day day now.

Nothing But Thieves frontman Conor Mason has written a refreshingly honest piece in the Independent about his problems with the cliched expectation of rock 'n' roll frontmen to be "sexed-up, drug-fuelled lothario party animals".

The singer says he's "made of different stuff."

He said: "I’ve never seen myself as an alpha male stereotype, so instead of trying to fit that mould I find myself swaying effortlessly towards the opposite. I see myself as the frontmum of the band instead of frontman, a sensitive chap who wouldn’t bark at a fly - and I’m cool with being an anti-cool figure.

    Quote Message

When the going gets tough, that archetypal male survival mindset doesn’t kick in for me, I don’t ‘man up’. I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean. Grin and bear it? Shout at it? Lash out at it? Does it mean ignore your issues and don’t speak to anyone about what you’re facing? Feel it but don't show it?"

He added: "I just can’t do that. I’ve really tried, but as I’ve grown up I’ve realised how much cooler and frankly healthier it is to be open and express myself. I just try and be myself and not care about what people think of me, so in turn that makes me sensitive to everything, I care a lot. Ironic really."

The article is written in support of the #IAMWHOLE campaign.

  13. Nottingham venue responds to Neck Deep scufflepublished at 11:20 BST 10 October 2017

    Neck Deep

Earlier, we told you about the scuffle with security staff that caused Welsh rockers Neck Deep to abandon a gig at Rock City in Nottingham (scroll down).

Video footage appeared to show security staff rough-handling crowd-surfing fans.

Now, the venue says: "We are currently still fully investigating the incident. It appears that the band took exception to the way the Rock City security were handling fans who were crowd surfing into the pit and attempting to get on stage.

"This unfortunately escalated into a physical confrontation between the band and the security staff.

Having reviewed the CCTV footage and spoken to witnesses, it doesn't appear that the security staff were disproportionate in their response to the crowd surfing."
