    1) The 1975 have arrived in the big league

The Wilmslow indie-pop rockers performed their first ever festival headline slot anywhere at Latitude on Friday night.

Singer Matty Healy was on imperious form and dropped pearls of wisdom for the Suffolk crowd - comprised mostly of teenage girls - throughout.

After stating his intention was "to spread love and unity", the singer went more specific:

    Quote Message

Especially to those who feel marginalised. Like the Muslim, black and LGBT communities. We stand with you!"

It was the last gig of the year for the Cheshire outfit, who confirmed they shall return in a different guise known as Music For Cars next year.

While you wait for that, read six of the best rants from the singer below on his band's big time debut.

    2) Despacito is now the most streamed song EVER

Luis Fonsi's Despacito became the most-streamed song of all time this week, just six months after it was released.

The hit single has been played 4.6 billion times across all streaming services, overtaking Justin Bieber's Sorry, which previously held the title.

"What's happened with this song is just insane," said Fonsi, who hails from Puerto Rico and sings in Spanish.

"I don't want to use the word accident because I was trying to write a hit, but I didn't plan for it to cross over.

"For a song to bring people and cultures together, that's what makes me proud."

Maybe Justin will bother to learn the words now and include it in his own live set.

    3) Proms season is officially underway

The first night audience at London's Royal Albert Hall saw a 400-strong choir performing John Adams' Harmonium.

Conductor Edward Gardner paid tribute to the choristers, saying: "I'm completely moved by the commitment of people who have been learning this piece for six months and haven't sung in any kind of organised choir before."

    You'd never know. Listen above.

On the same night, pianist Igor Levit improvised a version of the EU Anthem. Since then, the work of film score hit-maker John Williams has been celebrated and crooner Scott Walker will get the same treatment next week (scroll down for more on both).

It all culminates with the Last Night of the Proms celebrations, with Sir Ray Davies and friends in Hyde Park in September.

    4) Dolly and Kenny will perform together one last time

Dolly Parton confirmed that she will join Kenny Rogers in a final tribute concert this October.

As the country star prepares to hang up his microphone, Rogers, 78, will be joined by special guests including Idina Menzel, Alison Krauss and the Flaming Lips for the farewell concert in Nashville.

But the biggest draw of all will be Dolly. It's 12 years since the pair last performed their smash hit duet Islands in the Stream in front of a live audience.

Dolly said: "Performing with Kenny for the last time ever on Oct. 25 is going to be emotional for both of us, but it’s also going to be very special.

"Even though Kenny may be retiring, as he fades from the stage, our love for each other will never fade away.”

    Tissues at the ready.

    5) Beyonce looks nothing like Lindsay Lohan

I think we already knew this to be fair but it was confirmed beyond all doubt this week when a Madame Tussauds Waxwork (above) purporting to be the Lemonade singer left fans wondering why it bore more of a resemblance to the Mean Girls actress.

Or anyone in fact, just not Beyonce.

The "searingly personal lyrics and musical curiosity" of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington "changed the dynamics" of nu metal, writes our music reporter Mark Savage.

"Musically, they were miles apart from the sense-dulling artlessness of many of their contemporaries, inspired by contemporary Asia, postmodernism and sample culture. They weren't afraid to show their vulnerability on songs like Numb, external and In The End."

Eighteen-year-old starlet (and Spurs fan) Declan McKenna has released his eagerly-awaited and bizarrely-named debut album What Do You Think of the Car today.

It tackles tricky topics such the destruction of local communities in the build up the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the bathroom bill and the suicide of a transgender teen in Ohio.

Not your average indie-pop fodder then.

Declan spoke to the BBC a few months back about why he writes modern protest songs. He puts it down to not having a girlfriend at school (ah we remember those days...)

Luckily he'd woken up a little bit by the time he crossed the road to visit Steve Wright over at Radio 2.

One quarter of One Direction told Steve more about his new solo music and eventually reforming the band.

"One day - I don't know when - of course we'll get back together" he said.

    "It's a no brainer."

So back to the tragic news that Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington has died in an apparent suicide at the age of 41.

The LA County coroner said the singer appeared to have hanged himself at a private home on Thursday.

His death comes three months after his friend and fellow artist, Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell, took his own life in May.

Thursday would have been Chris's 53rd birthday.

Chester wrote an open letter, external following his death saying: "You have inspired me in ways you could never have known... I can't imagine a world without you in it."

He also performed at Chris's funeral service.

Formed in 1996, Linkin Park sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and won two Grammy Awards, collaborating with the likes of Jay-Z and, on their latest record, grime artist Stormzy.

His bandmate Mike Shinoda led the tributes on Twitter.
