  4. Massive fibber Iggy Pop has recorded new materialpublished at 15:40 GMT 1 November 2016

    Entertainment Weekly

    Iggy PopImage source, AP

Iggy Pop may have said his last album Post Pop Depression was likely to be his last - but now he's told Entertainment Weekly that he has been recording some new songs.

    Quote Message

I’ve made five recordings since then. But they were all recordings not where I’m about, ‘Hey, I’ve got something to say!’ No, it was just, people called me up and said, ‘Do you want to do a vocal with me, about this, under this circumstance?’ More like guesting. I would prefer to do that for a while. You know, there are people I like. I like the people I’ve recorded with — I can’t tell you who they are! — very much.

    Ooh... you tease Iggy.

The magazine was talking to the Stooges frontman alongside Jim Jarmusch who has directed Gimme Danger, a documentary about the influential NY band. You can read more about it here., external

Also if you fancy watching a bit of Iggy - the sixty-something singer made his debut at the weekend on the legendary Austin City Limits show in the States. , external

He had the same all star backing bad that joined him at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this year and we're loving Josh Homme's backing vocals on Lust for Life.

Marilyn Manson hits TV screens in the US tonight as he is joining the third series of the witch themed show Salem.

He plays Thomas Dinley - a barber/surgeon with ties to the devil and it gets pretty gruesome, as you would expect.

Manson has been connected to the show from the beginning as he co-wrote the song Cupid Carries a Gun, which is used as its theme tune.

He ended up with the role after the show's creator phoned him up personally:

    Quote Message

He said, 'Well, you'll be a barber that gives autopsies and travels somewhere in between the worlds of the dead and the living, and he has to deal with all of the things that witchcraft has caused and can't fix – basically the alchemical end. That's pretty much my interest in regular life, so it would be the perfect fit.

He said he felt right at home on the set of his character's barber shop/surgery as it "wasn't too far off from" his living room. Cosy!

There's also a story about how he "requested a black goat to play with, just off set, just for my own recreational purposes", as you do.

Sting has revealed he has got his own bus pass as he passed the age of 65 a few weeks ago and is looking forward to using it.

Not sure we can quite picture that but anyway Sting made the revelation when he was chatting to John Wilson on BBC Radio 4's Front Row last night about his new album 57th and 9th.

It's his first rock album in 13 years and he admits the sound takes you back to the old days.

    .

    Quote Message

I think it does and if I'm honest that's part of my DNA. For me the most important element in music is surprise - so when I listen to music I want to be surprised, I want to learn something. When I compose music I want to lay a surprise in pretty early. So when I choose the music I want to present to the world next I want to surprise people. So I've been making esoteric, reflective records, a Broadway album, orchestral, a lute album... But how could I surprise people now? - well rock n roll and everyone who's heard it has gone 'wow I didn't expect that'.

He revealed the title of the album is a road junction he crosses every time he walks from his NY home to his recording studio in Hells Kitchen.

"It's a two way street so you have to stop and be careful when crossing the road.

"I would always stop and kind of take stock of my life right now and my whole life and say you know you're a very lucky man."

One song on the album called 50,000 is about the death of music legends this year.

    Quote Message

It was a tough year - we lost some colleagues and some cultural icons. There's a little child in all of us that looks at our culture icons and thinks well they're immortal how can they possibly die. But they're sadly mortal like the rest of us So there's a sadness there and there's also a reflection of our own mortality - every moment is precious. So it's a celebration in many ways it's not a morbid song - it's a complex song.

He also touched on his hearing loss in the interview.

He said his hearing is "about as bad as most of my colleagues - you lose the top end. I don't have tinitis.

"If it's very quiet i get like birds singing in a distant forest which is not unpleasant but all of us have had too much industrial levels of noise in our careers."

  13. Budget supermarkets all in a spinpublished at 13:13 GMT 1 November 2016
