    Today would've been Ella Fitzgerald's 100th birthday and so Radio 4's Mara Carlyle has been examining the life of the 'most beloved of jazz singers' above.

    And here she is to sing us off too with an absolute classic below, alongside the one and only Satchmo.

    Former child prodigy actress Dakota Fanning (Man On Fire, War of the Worlds) gets the nod from one of you, while others think that US comedian Amy Schumer would be a real ray of light in this film.

    PJ Harvey, Patti Smith and Brian Eno are amongs the artists set to appear at a benefit gig for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

    Assange, who is officially wanted on sexual assault charges in Sweden and currently claiming refuge in London’s Ecuadorian Embassy, will be honoured by his supporters with a multi-city event from 19-25 June.

    First They Come For Assange will take place in London, Berlin, Paris, New York, Quito, Brussels, Madrid, Naples and Belgrade to mark the 4th anniversary of his political asylum.

    He's gone from Bad Seeds to Bad Girl in the score for the Australian thriller of the same name.

    In the interview he talks bout his 'brutal' way of working and compares himself to Frankenstein.

    Following on from yesterday's news about some new material from French indie rockers Phoenix.

    The follow-up to 2013’s Bankrupt! is on the way and in a new New York Times, external article, guitarist Laurent Brancowitz described the record as "summer and Italian discos.”

    Well, that's when we don't include streaming figures of course...One Dance alone skews those numbers.

    The latest charts from the music industry show that Beyonce's Lemonade was last year's best-selling album in CD, vinyl and downloads.

    According to the annual report by the IFPI (the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), streaming services have helped the music industry grow in value for the second year in a row, with revenue up by 5.9% to $15.7bn (£12.35bn).

    "We are no longer running up a down escalator," said Warner Music CEO Stu Bergen.

    Soooo... Apple Music has announced a delay to the spin-off series of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke.

    No reason has been given and it was due to start this month - it will apparently now debut later in the year.

    With guests including Will Smith, Metallica and John Legend and Alicia Keys, it should be worth waiting for.

    If you're a fan of Royal Blood and White Stripes, then you might want to check out Gurr - a Germany-based duo consisting of Laura Lee and Andreya Casablanca

    They played live on Huw Stephen's show on Radio 1 and even tackled a cover of Helter Skelter from the Fab Four's 1968 White Album.

    Some more on Radiohead now.

    Thom Yorke told us he was Creep many moons ago but now he is about to become a creepy crawly too.

    The Oxford band have inspired the name for a new species of ant that you may have seen on your last trip to the Venezuelan Amazon

    The Sericomyrmex radioheadi, aka 'The Radiohead ant', external, is apparently a 'silky' ant that grows fungus gardens for food.

    Ana Jesovnik and Ted R. Schultz from the Smithsonian Institution's Ant Lab made the discovery and Ana said: “We wanted to honor their music.

    “But more importantly, we wanted to acknowledge the conservation efforts of the band members, especially in raising climate-change awareness.”

    The Radiohead ant joins a growing list of newly-discovered rock star creatures.

    We all remember the Synalpheus pinkfloydi shrimp from a few weeks back of course.

    Singer-songwriter and YouTuber Charlie Puth has shared the new video for his track Attention.

    It shows young Charlie singing about his tumultuous relationship with his ex and engaging in a really awkward snog.

    The Apprentice will feature on the deluxe edition of their album Humanz which is out on Friday but was M.Jam's Hottest Record In The World last night.

  16. Artists for Palestine UK ask Radiohead not to play in Israelpublished at 11:41 BST 25 April 2017

    Names from around the music world, including Roger Waters, Robert Wyatt, Thurston Moore and Young Fathers have signed an open letter urging Radiohead not to go ahead with a planned gig in Tel Aviv, Israel in July.

    The letter begins: "We’d like to ask you to think again - because by playing in Israel you’ll be playing in a state where, UN rapporteurs say, ‘a system of apartheid has been imposed on the Palestinian people’."

    It goes on to claim that the band have ignored calls from Palestinian campaigners for a 'cultural boycott' on Israel and asks them to "stay away, until apartheid is over."

    Just when you thought Dave Grohl couldn't be a nicer guy, here he is speaking to his mum about the challenges of raising a rock star son.

    Virginia Grohl has contributed to a new book, external, alongside the mums of the likes of Dr Dre and Amy Winehouse about what it takes to bring up a star-in-the-making.

    Here's a very sweet clip of Dave grilling Virgina on the book and regaling the tale of when she made him play drums in a jazz club.

    Here's one for all the Madge fans out there.

    A new film chronicling her early years as a recording artist in New York City in the 1980s is apparently in the works.

    Blonde Ambition will cover the period of time around the recording of her self-titled debut album, which contained breakout hits like Holiday and Lucky Star.

    The Hollywood Reporter say that the film will also "highlight the Material Girl balancing her burgeoning fame with her love life".

    It's a tricky balancing act, we can tell you.

    Brett Ratner, who directed the singer's Beautiful Stranger video in 1999 is named amongst the producers for the Universal film.

    The question of which actress could realistically bring Madonna to life on the big screen remains unanswered.
