    Glastonbury Festival

    Ok guys, we're off.

Sadly not to Glastonbury, like some of our BBC colleagues.

We're clearly too integral to the operation back here at Music News LIVE Towers...that must be it.

Have fun if you are going. If not remember you can stay across all the BBC Glasto coverage here, and minute by minute on Twitter via @bbcglasto, external.

Stormzy is one of the many artists heading to Somerset. Scroll down to see why he's being singled out for praise on the Grenfell Tower charity single.

And find out what fellow Glasto performer Dave Grohl did with his ridiculous onstage throne after his leg got better.

    All that, and much more.

We'll leave you with one of Stormzy's pals, Raye, who smashed the Radio 1Xtra Live Lounge earlier today.

This one goes out to anyone who stood in a long line to get in somewhere fun today.

  2. Who was the greatest Glastonbury headliner of all time?published at 15:53 BST 21 June 2017

    Thom Yorke of Radiohead

Glasto has been graced with extraordinary headline acts from the start - but who was the best of them all? (Cue the debates in the office)

Was it Glam-rock for you or Britpop? Perhaps even hip-hop?

Here's a selection of great sets for your consideration, from T. Rex and a Cadillac, through to Suzanne Vega in a bulletproof vest, via Radiohead, JAY-Z then his wife Beyoncé with an unexpected guest...

...not to mention Adele just last year.

Over to you to rank the best headliners in order.

    JAY-Z

Let's see if this year's top dogs Radiohead, the Foos and/or Ed can produce equally legendary performances this time around.

While we're on the subject, here's the full Glasto lineup for this year too.

  3. Metal Ed...continuedpublished at 15:44 BST 21 June 2017

Remember earlier when we said that former Labour leader Ed Miliband was talking all things metal music with Napalm Death.

Well you didn't dream that. That is a thing that actually happened...

    ...and here's the proof.

    BBC Radio 1

Jordan and Noah from the band popped into the Radio 1 studios last night to talk DJ Annie Mac through their new track Laidback.

Apparently they are "Laidback about your love" but simultanously "Crazy about your love" too.

Love always did work in mysterious ways.

Now here's a band you may have caught at Glasto a few years back...

Bristol pop-rockers Coasts have announced today that they will return with a new album on 18 August.

This Life, which apparently tackles themes of "growing up and self-discovery" (plenty of that going on at Glasto this weekend) is the follow-up to last year's self-titled debut album.

In support of the record, they'll also head out on a 38-date UK tour, which kicks off on 15 September in Aberdeen and concludes in Brighton on 29 October.

Check out the full list below. We think Danielle might be going to at least one, don't you?

Poor lad. Don't worry Liam, after today's summer solstice the day's are only going to get shorter, darker and ultimately cooler too...

Over the last five years, Imagine Dragons have become one of the biggest bands on the planet.

Their emotionally-charged, radio-friendly rock anthems like Radioactive, external and Sucker For Pain, external have earned Grammy Awards, number one albums and a scarily loyal fanbase.

But behind closed doors, the band's frontman Dan Reynolds was struggling with severe depression.

Things came to a head on their last world tour. Playing 110 dates in 42 countries on five continents left the singer "numb".

"It came to a point where I didn't have an option," he tells the BBC. "It was lose my family and lose my life or seek help."

After the band's final concert of the tour in Amsterdam last February, the star told his bandmates he was taking a year off to tackle the condition, which has plagued him since childhood.

"When I was younger, in school, I would just let it pass, and ride out the valleys and the peaks and the ups and downs," he says.

"Then I tried medication and it was too scary for me, because I felt like it was going to change the music."

So last year, he "went to a therapist and sat down and basically faced it head on for the first time".

All it takes is a handful of plastic orange bricks and a Lego guitar, and what do you have? Ed Sheeran, of course!

Legoland Windsor have recreated this year’s Glastonbury festival ground, complete with headliners Radiohead, Foo Fighters and the aforementioned Sheeran.

5,400 Lego bricks were used to recreate the 50cm high Pyramid Stage, but Ed is just 61 bricks, including his guitar.

Electric Daisy CarnivalImage source, Getty Images

Promoters of the Electric Daisy Carnival have put out a statement in response to the death of Michael Morse at the music festival last weekend.

“The unexpected passing of a loved one is tragic, and while the exact cause of this tragedy is still unknown, we do know that family and friends are grieving.

"It is with great sadness that we send our thoughts and condolences to the loved ones of the man who passed away after the festival had ended."

An official coroner’s and toxicology report into the cause of death are still pending, but relatives of Mr Morse have suggested that long water lines at the festival - where temperatures peaked at 100+ degrees - were partly to blame.

Insomniac Events claim more than 100 free water access points were available throughout the course of the festival, with waits no longer than 10 minutes. In addition, their statement stressed "roaming" medical staff were available "twenty-four hours a day, free of charge".

According to authorities, 1,000 people sought medical treatment during the three-day festival.

Meanwhile, TMZ has reported, external that a father is suing festival organisers over the death of his 24-year-old son, Nicholas Tom, at the Las Vegas festival in 2015.

Mr Tom had a seizure after taking ecstasy at the festival and was carried to a medical tent, where he died.

His father, Terry Tom, is suing for wrongful death and negligence. He alleges that medical services were scarce, medical tents were understaffed, volunteers had no medical experience, and there was insufficient access to water.

Another day, another A-list spat (well, maybe A-list is a stretch...)

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor, in a war of words with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, said Kroeger had "a face like a foot" after Kroeger called Slipknot "a gimmick" and described Taylor’s side-project Stone Sour as “Nickelback Lite”.

Speaking on US radio station 98 KUPD, the Slipknot frontman described Nickelback singer Kroeger as an “idiot”, adding: “You can run your mouth all you want. All I know is I’ve been voted ‘Sexiest Dude In Rock’ wearing a mask. You’ve been voted ‘Ugliest Dude In Rock’ twice without one.

He stressed he had no issues with other Nickelback members, but addressing Kroeger, he said: “Dude, curl up in bed with your Hello Kitty pillow and shut up.”

Takes pillow talk to a whole new level...

  15. Review: Bat out of Hell - The Musicalpublished at 12:15 BST 21 June 2017

Bat out of Hell - The MusicalImage source, Piers Allardyce

With new songs written by Jim Steinman, this musical production of Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell, which opened in Manchester in February finally made its West End debut at The Coliseum in London on Tuesday night.

The cavernous space is home to the English National Opera but was maybe the only place large enough to house a mammoth set, which is at times the base of a Shard-like tower and at other times, a subterranean cave system.

The story is frankly bizarre, with a character called Strat (yes, really) leading a gang of eternal teenagers called The Lost through a dystopian Manhattan - now called Obsidian -run by a former rocker-come-despot called Falco.

Strat falls for Falco's daughter, aka Raven, and trouble begins...

Trying to make sense of the plot is probably not worth it, as the cast thunder through Meat Loafs back catalogue, including Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Real Dead Ringer For Love, You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth, the title track, of course, and the inevitable show closer I Would Do Anything For Love.

It's all a bit of a guilty pleasure - a rather large cheese sandwich - but the standing ovation proved that there is life in the old Loaf yet.

    Strat's my boy

So our reporter Kev enjoyed it - and it seems plenty of other people have too, as the musical has added two further weeks of shows - with tickets on sale now., external

In other reviews, The Guardian, external said: "Jim Steinman’s perky lyrics are often overpowered in this musical juggernaut, but his roaring choruses and fairytale plot are built for the ENO’s stage"

While the Evening Standard, external described the show as "a jaw-dropping spectacle".

So don't be sad Jim...three out of three (good reviews) ain't bad.

  18. Dave Grohl on Glasto redemption, throne-life and 'huge' new albumpublished at 11:05 BST 21 June 2017

    BBC Radio 1

Yesterday we brought you the news that Foo Fighters have announced a new album and world tour.

The US rockers will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glasto on Saturday night.

Frontman Dave Grohl told Annie Mac last night that this year's performance "is a make-up date", after he was forced to cancel two years ago due to falling off the stage in Sweden and breaking his leg.

He also revealed to Annie that Guns 'N Roses and sometime ACDC frontman Axl Rose borrowed his throne (above) after he was done with it. Who knew?

And guess what? Dave says that new record Concrete and Gold is "the hugest-sounding thing we've ever done" and sounds like "Motorhead playing Sgt.Pepper".

Wowzers. Well he's not exactly gonna say it's rubbish now, is he?

Also who is the pop "mega-star" that appears on the record doing guest backing vocals?

    Listen above.

    StormzyImage source, PA

We told you earlier about the new charity single for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in London.

Well, grime star Stormzy is being praised online for his defiant and moving verse, that was added to the all-star cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

    Here it is below:

I don’t know where to begin

So I’ll start by saying I refuse to forget you

    I refuse to be silenced

    I refuse to neglect you

That’s for every last soul up in Grenfell

Even though I’ve never even met you

Cause that could have been my mum’s house

Or that could have been my nephew

It could have been me up there
