  2. Stormzy reacts to Enny Aluko 'racism' casepublished at 15:34 BST 18 October 2017

    StormzyImage source, Getty Images

Grime star Stormzy has vented his anger on social media over the treatment of England Women's footballer Eni Aluko.

The Chelsea player is giving evidence in court amidst allegations of racist remarks being made to her by ex-England boss Mark Sampson.

The FA has apologised to two players after new evidence showed sacked England's women's boss Mark Sampson made remarks which were "discriminatory on the grounds of race".

    Enny Aluko

An independent barrister ruled Sampson made unacceptable "ill-judged attempts at humour" on two occasions, to Eniola Aluko and Drew Spence. However Katharine Newton said despite this, she did not believe he is racist.

This has set Stormzy off on an angry (and often foul-mouthed) outburst on Twitter.

He tweeted: "Dragged her name through the mud and tarnished her and then anyone who came to her defence was demonised as well."

  3. Major Lazer go for record amount of featured artisits on Hottest Recordpublished at 15:30 BST 18 October 2017

    BBC Radio 1

The problem with having the hottest record in the world is that the sheer heat of it only allows for a maximum 24 hours of fun.

George FitzGerald had his time in the sun, now the latest act to have this hotter than hot honour bestowed upon them are Major Lazer.

Their new track Particula features an international crowd of DJ Maphorisa, Jidenna, Patoranking, Ice Prince and Nasty C. Band meetings must be a nightmare with that lot.

Diplo from the band told Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac all about it above.

It's an unusual marketing strategy we suppose.

The former Bloc Party frontman released his new record, written about his experiences travelling to his dad's homeland of Nigeria and dealing with his own impending fatherhood on Friday.

Kele's third solo album features guest appearances from Olly Alexander from Years and Years and Corinne Bailey Rae.

"If I was going to make an album today, it wouldn't sound like Fatherland," he told 6 Music.

Listen above and check out his collab with Olly below on the track Grounds for Resentment.

Don't been fooled by this woman's fairly nonchalant appearance, we're sure she was blown away by sitting not five feet from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon as he performed 8 (Circle) from his most recent album.

The video is the first from music production company La Blogothèque from a new series One2One, which features a musician performing in an intimate space for one person.

Gord Downie, the lead singer of beloved Canadian band The Tragically Hip has died at the age of 53.

The singer was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2016 and, last summer, performed a farewell tour which culminated in a sell-out crowd in Kingston, Ontario.

The show was broadcast live across Canada and an estimated one in three Canadians tuned in, according to broadcaster CBC, on a hugely emotional night for performers and fans.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who was at the live show, said the band had "been writing Canada's soundtrack for over 30 years".

In a statement, the band said "Gord knew this day was coming - his response was to spend this precious time as he always had, making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived."

  7. Louis Tomlinson shares new lyric video for Just Like Youpublished at 14:09 BST 18 October 2017

    Louis TomlinspnImage source, Getty Images

Well, Harry S may have taken the credit for naming the band but One Direction was greater than the sum of its parts and now that all of those parts have gone their separate ways, here's the latest from Louis Tomlinson.

He's shared a lyric video for his latest Just Like You in which he laments the trappings of fame and fortune at the age of 25.

Sadly, he's so upset he says a swear so you'll have to find it on his YouTube channel as he sings: You only get half of the story/ The cash, and the cars and the glory / No sleep and we party ‘til morning / Cause nobody cares when you’re boring.

    We hear you buddy.

  8. BBC's Ten Pieces: All you need to know about the chosen workspublished at 13:46 BST 18 October 2017

    Mark Savage
    Music reporter, BBC News

Performances at the 2016 Ten Pieces Prom

Clueless about classical music? Then help is at hand.

The BBC's Ten Pieces scheme has been running since 2014, with the aim of educating children about Mozart, Mussorgsky and everything in between - but it's a pretty good primer for adults, too.

The latest list of 10 works (it's probably ok to call them songs, too) includes music by Purcell, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, alongside a new piece written especially for the project by Kerry Andrew.

Schoolchildren will be able to hear the Ten Pieces performed live at concerts across the UK throughout the year; while the BBC's orchestras and choirs, and the Ulster Orchestra in Northern Ireland, will give free coaching to young musicians.

And on Monday 13 November, a "live lesson" will be beamed into schools, with the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet School encouraging children aged seven to 11 to create their own original dances to Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

Here's all you need to know about the music selected for this year's Ten Pieces.

  9. Mary J Blige laments racial divisions in the USpublished at 13:25 BST 18 October 2017

Blige: US still 'separated' on race

The R&B singer is over here to promote her post WW2 drama set in rural Mississippi and spoke to Newsnight's Emily Maitlis about how the same racial issues dealt with in the film still resonate today.

She said: "I thought things had changed but when I saw President Obama, on the day he was elected, I saw separation".

Mary also claims that she has lost out on magazine cover shoots because she is black.

Texan art rocker St Vincent is hoping for her first top five UK album chart landing this Friday following the release her mischievously spelled sixth album Masseduction and she won't have done her chances any harm by bringing the record to technicolour life with a provocative one woman show at London's Brixton Academy last night.

In a real gig of two halves, St Vincent - aka Annie Clark - emerged alone from behind a curtain and performed a mini greatest hits set of tracks taken from her previous five albums.

The 35-year-old strutted across the stage in knee high red leather boots in between riffing along to a backing track on a collection of her own female-friendly designed guitars.

    "Hello London," she said.

"I can't even express my joy at being here."

She dropped to the floor to sing the whole of Strange Mercy while lying on her side before returning to her feet for a first half finale of Digital Witness, Rattlesnake and Birth In Reverse from her self-titled 2014 breakthrough album.

The evening of complete self-indulgence began with the coveted support slot being given to a screening of her own short horror film debut The Birthday Party.

The second half saw her kick off the big boots and slip into something a little more comfortable in order to deliver the new album in full and in order from on top of a small mid-stage pedestal.

Despite the new record only arriving into our smart phones/record collections on Friday, St Vincent's attention grabbing performances on Jools Holland's show last week, external and in the 6 Music live room earlier in the day (above) helped the south London crowd to fully embrace the beautiful ballad of New York - about her former girlfriend UK model Cara Delevingne - and enjoy a digital dance to the anthemic satirical ode to lost love and wrinkles, Los Ageless.

All the while with bright, bold suggestive images of the singer moving around on the screen behind her.

Next time Annie returns to these shores, we'd prefer to see her re-united with her band performing these great tracks live in the fullest sense.

But for one night only it was remarkable to see a single artist display such total mastery of her instrument, songs and own self-image at the same time.

She'll do it all over again in Manchester tonight. Here's what some of you made of it below...

They were the next big thing 10 years ago with the release of their debut album Oracular Spectacular but now Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser aka MGMT are back, older, wiser and a bit gloomier.

They've shared the Hammer Horror-esque promo for their new track Little Dark Age.

We'd best describe it as electro-goth and singer VanWyngarden seems to have been taking style tips from The Cure's Robert Smith and Gary Numan. Or perhaps he's just been binge-watching episodes of the Mighty Boosh...

The chorus includes the lyrics: I grieve in stereo / The stereo sounds strange / I know that if you hide / It doesn't go away.

George Michael: The Red Line, his final interview, conducted by presenter Kirsty Young, will be split across two 60 minute-programmes on 1 and 8 November at 22:00.

The singer invited Kirsty to his home to chat for a film he was producing about his life and career - which was broadcast on Channel 4 on Monday night and featured around five minutes the interview.

However, the conversation ran on for over two hours and led to a frank and informal discussion about George’s life and career.

Among the areas discussed, was his lengthy court battle against his record label Sony.

He took Sony to court in 1992, claiming he had little control over his work and accusing the label of treating him as "no more than a piece of software". He ultimately lost the case and spoke of his regrets, adding what sounds like a criticism of the new wave of artists

"I feel I took three years out of my career, I spent seven million dollars and I got nothing for artists. Nothing.

"And then 10 years later it’s a different generation…that never looks at what they’re doing to their fellow man you know. Let alone fellow artists.”

Frankly, we like the St Louis singer just the way she is and you will too.

Check her out performing Normal Girl above.

Bad news today I'm afraid if you booked that trip to Japan you were talking about to see Ed Sheeran.

The singer was knocked off his bicycle by a car in London on Monday and has now confirmed that he's been forced to cancel five upcoming gigs on his tour of Asia.

Ed posted the below pic of his new black cast alongside a message telling fans that broken bones in his right wrist and left elbow - ouch! - mean that scheduled gigs in Taipei (on Sunday), Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong have all now been postponed.

Writing on Instagram (via a ghost writer), Ed said:

A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

"Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that."

He added: "Please stay tuned for more details. PS - Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged."

Good well soon Ed. We can't help but think this accident was karma for falsely singing about a fictional leg break on his best-selling last album.
