  2. Warbly Jets share new music written and recorded in ten dayspublished at 15:43 BST 25 April 2018

    Last but not least today...

At the tail end of last year, we introduced you to a cracking new US band called Warbly Jets - who were about to step out on stage supporting Liam Gallagher on his US tour.

Their sound has shades of early Primal Scream, The Verve and even a touch of Kasabian.

Now, they've shared their first new music of 2018.

Inhuman Emotion (below) was written, recorded, produced, mixed and released in ten days.

"There's loads of crazy production tricks on this one," said singer Sam Shea told Flaunt magazine., external

"I geek out over that stuff. There's five different drum kits from section to section, the room sound on the drums was a 25 cent mic from a flea market.

"Basically anything I've ever been told not to do I'm doing."

When the results are this lush, then he should probably just go with his gut.

The Dundee singer's confessional new solo single is out on Friday and chronicles his battle with the bottle.

Poor Me was apparently born out therapy sessions after the Scot was admitted to rehab for alcohol addiction.

The former View frontman, who last year supported Liam Gallagher, told Clash magazine; "Every day you get triggers and traumas stuck in your head, and you’re hearing all of these horrible stories.

“You want to hear it, but at the same time you’re thinking, ‘I’m here to help myself but I’ve got to listen to everyone else’s story.’ It’s quite hard to hear, and I was thinking that a lot of these people were worse off than me.”

He added: "It's been a very long time coming this solo thing. It feels great to get it off my chest finally and the lyrics to this track run deep."

Well turns out the rumours are true.

A few weeks back The Mac declared their intention to let long-standing member Lindsey Buckingham go his own way.

The band swiftly announced that Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House would take over on guitar duties.

Now in their first interview since the move, drummer and founding member Mick Fleetwood has told US publication The Rolling Stone that the word 'fired' does not sit right with him and the band, claiming it ll came down to scheduling difficulties.

"Words like ‘fired’ are ugly references as far as I’m concerned," he said.

“Not to hedge around, but we arrived at the impasse of hitting a brick wall.

"This was not a happy situation for us in terms of the logistics of a functioning band.

  9. Three times U2 changed (or tried to change) the music industrypublished at 14:07 BST 25 April 2018

    BonoImage source, Getty Images

While most of us agree that it's ok to take a picture at a gig, the thought of people watching entire gigs through their phones upsets most fans.

U2 are now actively asking gig-goers to download a new app which will let them have an AR experience at their forthcoming tour (scroll down).

Is is exciting for their fans? Most likely. Is it merely a clever gimmick? Arguably. Will other bands attempt something similar? Undoubtedly.

Here are some of the Irish rockers' other technical innovations and whether or not they have worked for the greater good...

U2 on their Joshua Tree tourImage source, Getty Images

    1) Ambitious stage shows

Simply put there are few other bands out there that put on as much of a spectacle during their live shows as U2.

Noel Gallagher recently described them as his favourite live band ever and the former Oasis chief has seen a few gigs in his time.

Their recent anniversary touring of their classic album The Joshua Tree featured an ultra high-definition video screen measuring 200 ft × 45 ft (61 m × 14 m), making it the largest and highest resolution video screen of any concert tour.

    BonoImage source, Getty Images

Twenty-five years ago, their Zoo TV Tour (pictured top) was an elaborately staged multimedia event, satirising the media.

They followed it up with their PopMart tour in 1997 (above), which included a 100-foot-tall (30 m) golden yellow arch and a 40-foot-tall (12 m) mirrorball lemon.

U2's 360° Tour stage set upImage source, Getty Images

    Couldn't get bigger that that?

Think again - their 2009 360° Tour, which featured the band playing stadiums in the round saw the need for a large four-legged structure nicknamed "The Claw".

At 164 feet (50 m) tall, it was the largest stage ever constructed.

There are echoes of U2 in epic live shows now from pop stars like Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, to fellow rockers Muse and Coldplay.

    2) Giving music directly to fans (and non fans)

Cut out the middlemen seems to be part of U2's ethos.

But this backfired in 2014 when Bono had to apologise after their Songs of Innocence album was automatically added to the libraries of all iTunes users around the world.

He said the move was a "drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity".

Some users complained that the 11-track Songs of Innocence had been added to their music library without permission and that it was not clear how to delete it.

Apple later released a one-click tool enabling iTunes customers to remove it.

Okay, they messed that one up but the direct-to-fan business model is set to be one of the music industry's game-changers with more young artists looking to bypass labels, shops and publicists to get their music and merch straight into the hands of their fans.

U2 fans on the 360 tourImage source, Getty Images

    3) First band to use a ‘Verified Fan’ system to sell all concert tickets

The band were the first to make full use of Ticketmaster’s ‘Verified Fan’ platform on this year's North American Experience + Innocence arena tour.

In an effort to prevent touting, the U2's American fans were asked to sign up to the ticket provider's system before they went on sale in November last year.

The technology was also put in place for pre-sales to members of U2’s fan club.

With the entire industry scrambling to deal with touting on an industrial scale, more bands are taking active steps to work with official sellers to avoid tickets being sold for inflated prices on secondary platforms.

Stars like Adele and Ed Sheeran have partnered with sites such as Twickets.co.uk, which prohibits the resale of tickets at a profit.

  15. U2 prepare to go to ARpublished at 11:02 BST 25 April 2018

Phones at the ready on their next tour please fans

    U2Image source, Getty Images

While many artists - like Jack White - are demanding that you put your phones firmly away for the duration of their performance, U2 are about to request the exact opposite of their fans.

The veteran Irish rockers have released the U2 Experience app to give fans an augmented experience during their UK/Ireland gigs in October and beyond.

Those of you in the venue will be able to hold your phone up in the direction of a 100 ft LED screen behind Bono, The Edge, et al and enjoy an audio visual experience through your phone.

You won't have to talk to your friends, partners or fellow gig-goers at all.

Apparently if you are not lucky enough to land a ticket for any of their shows you can experience a taster by pointing your phone at their latest album cover.

It's all pretty futuristic stuff and a fairly elaborate way of ensuring you buy either a gig ticket or the album.

Let's hope this latest trick works out better than when they planted previous album Songs of Innocence directly into iTunes users accounts. Bono later apologised for that move, admitting to "a drop of megalomania."

Thank goodness he's got that out of his system.

One thing it's probably not, is a cover of the Zedd's hit record The Middle, which he recorded with country star Maren Morris.

According to the writers, her version of "sounded like it was supposed to be" but her management didn't want the song to overshadow her breakout single Havana.

Alex Turner: "Sing along if you know the words to... oh no wait, maybe not..."

Often by the time an eagerly-awaited new rock 'n' roll album comes out, you'll already be bored of it as your local commercial indie radio station will have played the first two or three singles to death for months.

No such worries with the new Arctic Monkeys album though peeps as this one is to be released - on 11 May - as a complete body of work.

In their first new interview back, frontman Alex Turner told Mojo mag that there we be no Do I Wanna Know or RU Mine? as was the case with 2013's AM.

But don't blame him for the idea. Blame guitarist Jamie Cook or their record label,

"Jamie was really keen on that idea," Alex said.

"And I guess people at Domino. But it didn’t come from me. I understand it, I think.”

Elsewhere, unlike most of us who have only heard the 42 seconds of music below, Sony/ATV's exec Guy Moot has already listened to Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino in full and believes that Alex "has written another masterpiece".

The 18-year-old scored the biggest-selling British debut of the year when his classical album, Inspiration, dropped in late January.

Kensington Palace said the couple had taken "a great deal of interest and care in choosing the music for their service", adding it would include a number of well-known hymns and choral works.

Absolute blood bath in the studio

We thought nothing could stop the funkmeister general but it seems if you cut him he does bleed... quite a lot in fact.

The Chic guitarist has posted a rather graphic and blood-filled picture and video online of the outcome of his fall in the studio, which led to him being treated in hospital for a broken nose.

Nile wrote: "I have a foldable ice pack and have already stopped the bleeding.

"When I arrived at the hospital the Dr. said, 'I did everything right.' I'm going to be fine even w the broken nose."

We realise that many of you won't have had breakfast yet so we'll spare you the gory video but if you are that way inclined you can find it on his social media accounts.

But you have been warned: It's like a deleted scene from Saving Private Ryan.

Nile and the band are due back over in the UK in June for a number of festival appearances at the likes of the Isle of Weight and Blenheim Palace and bookings like that are not to be sniffed at.

    Get well soon Nile.
