From the stars to the sea – French greats with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Laniakea is Hawaiian for ‘immeasurable celestial paradise’, a term that perfectly describes the music of Camille Pépin. Moving from sky to sea, Maurice Ravel captures the rippling waves, the vastness and occasional loneliness of a sea voyage, while Germaine Tailleferre takes inspiration from a sailor’s song in her Petite Suite for Orchestra. Finally, the sun rises over the ocean with Debussy, who unleashes enormous elemental forces in La mer.
