  8. Christopher Macarthur-Boyd and Rosco Mclellandpublished at 19:05 BST 14 August 2016

    Bobby Seiler
    BBC Comedy Squad

This Glaswegian double header opened with the likeable Rosco McLelland working the room with his shaggy appearance and sweary West Coast drawl immediately conjuring comparisons to a certain Mr William Connolly Esquire. However his initial attempts at repartee with the audience fell pretty flat in a room of not more than 20 people and much of his material about relationship woes also felt a little underwhelming but he had enough charm to keep the audience onside.

It was only until he played his master card of audience participation games that the laughs really stated to roll. The “Am I looking at you or am I looking at someone else?” game was great fun and “How far away from me are you?” was inspired lunacy which involved a tape measure and an audience member guessing the distance.

The second half belonged to his best mate, the diminutive Christopher McArthur-Boyd, who got the audience smiling with his appearance alone. The blend of a big, black walnut whip of hair and a pair of round glasses brought to mind, as he said himself, a cross between Gok Wan and Ronnie Corbett. McArthur Boyd’s laconic, self-depracating wryness played well in the small room and he elicited plenty of chuckles discussing his relationship problems, the Brexit vote, his love of wrestling and living at home with his parents.

Both comedians are part of a great Glasgow collective called Chunks and both have real potential to become mainstays of the Scottish comedy scene in the years to come. Well worth the fiver entry!

Rosco McLelland &Christopher MacArthur-Boyd, external are at the Gilded Balloon at the Counting House (Venue 170) at 8pm until 29 August.

  11. What do the judges think?published at 18:57 BST 14 August 2016

Sindhu Vee is most likely the tallest Indian woman you'll ever meet. Born and brought up in India she is now a London based comedian. She devotes all the time she has left over from raising her 3 children (and a bizarrely gigantic labrador) to comedy and suffering facial peels.

Despite being a relative newcomer to the circuit, 22 year old Lauren is one of the brightest young talents on the comedy scene. She's a regular on the North East circuit who is beginning to make her presence known across the country, recently providing tour support for Katherine Ryan. This baby-faced comic is one to watch out for.
