Halstead is a market town in North Essex not too far from the Suffolk border.

It is now an important commuter town but has been there for hundreds of years. It is thought that the town did not become a settled community until Saxon times. It is recorded in the Doomsday survey of 1086 under the Saxon name of Halsteda.
