Meet the Action Desk Team The Action Desk is mostly staffed by volunteers who answer calls for assistance, present the daily bulletins, and organise interviews and special events. We are all from different backgrounds and none of us have had previous experience in the media. The Action Desk is a great chance for us to learn how radio works while giving something to the community.
Put faces to the voices: Pam Mungroo (Action Desk Producer) Hi, I'm Pam Mungroo, I'm the one that can be heard on Tuesdays and apparently I sound a lot older than I am!!! I've been with the Action Desk since September 2002. Working within the BBC is a great deal of fun and certainly a learning experience, but what really makes this job for me is all the different people I get to meet.
Willow Murton Volunteering between lectures and libraries offers a valuable opportunity to balance out the solitary stress of my final year university studies with community work. Being part of the Action Desk team is a great way of learning and contributing at the same time to what is an inspiring challenge.
Jeremy Sallis Having bummed (maybe travelled) around the world for three years after graduating from Durham University, a nomadic Jeremy finds himself temporarily grounded on the Action Desk. Concentrating mainly on the bulletins and interviews in the afternoons, he can be found on a Monday and Thursday.
David Vellam I’m David Vellam. I have plenty of spare time as I am ‘resting’ between college and a 'difficult to attain career' (I want to write and direct films). I now help here on a Wednesday. As I have been in formal education for the past 17 years and I think radio is one of the greatest forms of media, this seems like a good place to be at the moment.
Alex Harris After finding myself with a day or two free every week I decided to fill it with something that was as constructive, engaging and as enjoyable as possible. The Action Desk has been the perfect way to use this 'spare' time. Having recently moved back to Cambridgeshire, working on the Action Desk is proving to be a great way to find out what's going on in the local area, as well as a great way to learn about Radio and, of course, it's a load of fun!
If you like the idea of joining the Action Desk’s team of volunteers, then give us a call on 0845 300 1090 to talk about it, email us at cambs.action@bbc.co.uk or send a CV and letter explaining your interest to: Action Desk Producer BBC Cambridgeshire Action Desk 104 Hills Rd Cambridge CB2 1LD |
