Leicester Tigers rugby star Martin Corry has won the 2007 BBC East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year award.

Hockey legend Crista Cullen from Leicester Ladies and snooker professional Mark Selby, along with England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom from Nottinghamshire were the other finalists.

Corry is the Leicester Tigers Rugby Union captain who has represented England in the Rugby Six Nations Championships and the Rugby World Cup.

The Sports Awards for 2007 were held at the Assembly Rooms in Derby.
