Jason Isaacs as Sir Mark Brydon

Your comments & theories on episode 3:

"What a brilliant series, although it has taken me until this episode to understand a lot of what's going on.

Special mention must go to Lennie James (Luke Gardner) for his performance. It was almost impossible to watch the scenes with his mother and also the last moments during his execution. I was moved to tears watching it."

Phillippa, Kent

"I'm completely hooked. Not sure I fully understand what's going on yet, though it's starting to become clearer. I just hope I'm not left wondering what it was all about come the last episode.

One small criticism - though pretty moving, the execution scenes lasted too long and slowed the story down slightly."

Mark, Hull

"I really enjoy this programme. The acting is spot on, in particular Lennie James as Luke Garner in the death scene. It was so emotional I cried the whole way through it. Very daring, thought provoking drama is just what we need. Thank you to all involved."

Karen Mack, Leeds

"I just don't understand how after watching a man being executed a couple who barely know each other can 'make love' to try and make sense of what they saw. I think it's nothing short of barbaric and base animal lust and surely is not how a British Ambasador (the cream of society) should behave."

Someone who doesn't approve, Nottingham

"I'm finding all the plot lines engaging, and not too difficult to follow. Who's trustworthy will, I'm sure, be revealed over the next few weeks.

Like others have noted, the more intimate relationship between Nicholas and Chris was one I hadn't expected. Although it would sadden me if they were only together to see what information they could get from 'the other side'."

Jan, Manchester

"Totally confused but totally hooked.

One query. She's a brilliant actor but why choose a white woman to play Luke Gardner's mother? It doesn't seem convincing or genetically possible for her to be his mum?"

Fiona Coney, Merseyside

"Good to see the sound problems - poor dubbing etc - have been sorted out. I missed the second episode as I was exasperated by the amateurish sound of the first, which undermined the high quality of the rest of the production."

Daniel, Bromsgrove

"Years of watching film and TV has taught me there's a direct ratio between elaborate cinematography and editing etc and quality plot: the more complex the narrative, the sillier the story. The State Within is like a James Bond* film on speed. Schlock, but gift-wrapped."

Robert Giddings, Poole

"Very complex, but may be nearer the truth than any of us would like to think. We need more of this type of drama [fact or fiction!]"

Mike, Bath

"I often think there's more behind what I hear on the news and this drama is great at supporting my theories."

Julie, Hebden Bridge
