15-19 September
Julia announced to a shocked team at the surgery that Joe had left the country to work in Boston. The unrest continued when Vivien was visibly shaken by a visit from the grandfather of her attacker, who had come to apologise. She refused to accept his apology.
The newly homeless Daniel was forced to stay in a hotel, but his woes increased when his card was declined when he tried to pay. His sob story convinced the receptionist not to call the police. He later admitted his predicament to Melody, who took pity on him and said he could stay with her, but he pushed his luck by making a move on her and ended up back on the streets.
Following his success at a job interview, Mal continued to pester Julia for an answer to his marriage proposal. Julia wouldn't be forced into anything and despite his pleads she turned him down and returned his ring. Julia decided there was no future for them and Mal left for good.
8 - 12 September
An exhausted Joe was still concerned about Daniel's relationship with Kay and quizzed him on the whereabouts of the vase. Joe was shocked when the police turned up on his doorstep asking questions about Kay. As the police eventually caught up with her, a furious Joe found a piece of the smashed vase. When Daniel returned home, Joe demanded to know what had happened and later threw him out.
As her 40th birthday approached, George was half-expecting a big surprise, but she got a buffet lunch and a silver bracelet. She resigned herself to being happy with a quiet night of celebrations, but Ronnie had something special up his sleeve.
At George's surprise party, the drink flowed, there was dancing in the street and Michelle finally got to snog her new crush, Mike. As the party got into full swing, the guests were shocked when Mal got down on one knee and proposed to a flabbergasted Julia.
1 - 5 September
Julia was floating on air after her weekend away with Mal, but admitted to George she'd footed the bill for the trip. Regardless George invited the new lovebirds out to dinner so she could quiz Mal about his financial situation. Tensions soon rose when George asked Julia how much money she'd given Mal. Angry with George's confrontation Julia stormed out. Later Mal caught Julia off guard when he told her he loved her; but is he up to something?
Daniel caused more headaches for Joe by getting embroiled in another of Kay's games. She convinced him to bunk off work to go to an auction with her, where he accidentally bid on an expensive vase, only for Kay to later smash it.
Meanwhile at the Mill, Joe struggled through some paperwork with worryingly blurred vision. Vivien suggested he took the afternoon off as he looked exhausted, but he shunned her idea. After agreeing to take on yet more work as Melody's mentor, he finally made it home where he collapsed.
