We conducted a snapshot of the views of both audiences and experts on the portrayal of lesbian, gay and bisexual people in the media to update our research.
We used the BBC’s independently-run audience reaction panel (called Pulse) and we also spoke to representatives of expert organisations.
Research and consultation on portrayal of lesbian, gay and bisexual audiences
We conducted groundbreaking research and consultation on how the BBC and other broadcasters portray lesbian, gay and bisexual people. As part of this work we ran a public consultation where anyone could tell us what they thought. Almost 9,500 people took part.
The findings have informed an internal working group led by Tim Davie (then Director of Audio and Music) set up to ensure we deliver more accurate and authentic portrayal of LGB people.
- What do lesbian, gay and bisexual audiences really watch on TV?Adrian Ruth, Chair of BBC Pride, blogs about the findings of the research.
