Ere! Tagging is the basis of ALL graffiti. Every graff 'mural' you see is simply an extension of the tag. The same people painting the walls with colours and characters are more often and not the same individuals sneaking their marker pens on to the buses.

Rather than being narrow minded or boring, why not take the time to understand graffiti?It is amazing-the risks and costs these people take to become somebody-buying/stealing paint, styles (years), keeping their tag name quiet,living a double life,rival crews,hiding evidence,the time they get up to do it, and loads moer.I would definately rather see graffiti than a blank wall - so be it a tag or a mural. This is their world and they want people to understand it.Also, the people who say I love the amazing art but hate the scum who tag, these are 9/10 the same people.Tags are also art not many people can get the science right for them.Futhermore they have standards usually-No cars houses etc.Finally, whta about all the huge companies who put up their slogans everywhere we might look or hear?they want to get noticed the same as graffiti writters do, except graff artsists do it for the love not the moeney.People should be tought to accept and love it cos it aint gettin nowhere and will never be stopped,rather than fighting a ridiculous battle we they always win

YOU CANT AND WILL NEVER STOP GRAFFITI.GIVE UP!LOOK AT THE OTHER COUNTRIES IN EUROPE SUCH AS FRANCE, GERMANY, POLAND, ITALY. THEY HAVE A HUGE GRAFFITI PROBLEM, BUT THEY FORGET ABOUT IT AND GET USED TO IT. INSTEAD OF SPENDING TAX PAYERS MONEY.WAKE UPEND OF!!

There is one clear distinction between vandalism and art... Permission to put the graffiti there in the first place. Ok, so taggers might like to see their work on private/public property but often the people who live or work there do not. Someone then has to pay to clean it off. In the schools case it will eventually come out of the public purse (council tax). I see tagging as an easy excuse to vandalise other peoples spaces and call it art. Why not get up off your behinds and get painting some good quality legal walls to brighten up the community. - Probably because tagging is for those who are unable to be creative. What's so 'artistic' about writing a made up name over and over again and not even having the guts to stand up and say 'I did this' Come on...please!

I believe the movement of graffiti is natural and therefore should be left to occur. Il admit so called 'tags' are awful and dont give graff artists a good name, but surely piece graff should be left as cultural expression. Theres a reason it is not in galleries and that is that it doesn't belong there. Hope this helps with the authority twisted minds of those who believe it is just vandalism.

that girl is probably the cutest thing i've seen all day. but she's also got a real point. it's her school, her space, and it's being vandalised in an intimidating way, it's almost personal. i want the people that did it to see this, and nice one for whoever helped her out with getting heard! (Good point by previous commenter on definition of 'graffiti' -not amazingly relavant though?..)

graffiti isnt always vandalism vandalism is writing ur name in a marker graffiti is art, graffiti is expression, and in the right circumstances looks damn cool!
