More than 1,700 people took to the streets to take part in the Derby 10k Run and Family Fun Run on a blustery day for the runners.
Organisers of the 2003 Derby 10k and family Fun Runs have hailed the event a success after more than 1,700 turned out to take part in the second annual event, which started and finished at Pride Park.

Over 1,100 runners registered for the 10k run and more than 600 for the fun run. Organisers said there was a surge of late entries - over 250 people registered on the day.

Conditions were reasonable for the runners - although the wind tended to be blustery at times.

Winner: Kevin Farrow
First across the line for the 10k run was last year's winner Kevin Farrow from Derby AC in a time of 30 minutes 49 seconds.

After the race, he said: "It was a bit windier than I'd hoped so it was quite tough going and it was a bit in-your-face on the way back.

"The course was a bit twisty but it made a change to run through the city and was definitely an improvement on last year's course."

Kevin said he started to break away from the leading pack as the runners left Pride Park and headed towards the city centre but really started to run for home from about 5k.

The first woman across the line was Lisa Palmer, also of Derby AC.
She was delighted at her achievement and said: "It was a very fast course. One of the great things about this race is running with the men, rather than running a separate race.

"And there was great support out on the course - that was brilliant. I ran this race last year and one of the things that made me come back was the support."

The fun run attracted more than 600 entrants of all ages.
First across the winning line was 16-year-old Steve Bonnington from Heanor running club.

Runners and spectators gathered early for the event and were treated to some colourful entertainment and, for the runners, a warm up session by by Tracy Selsby of JJB Sports and a sporting massage if they wanted it.

New this year was the chance to finish in Pride Park Stadium - those who lasted the distance ran around the perimeter track to cross the finish line.
