On 3 February 2015, MPs debated the draft Human Fertilisation and Embryology (Mitochondrial Donation) Regulations 2015.

The regulations would permit a modified version of IVF to combine the DNA of the two parents with the healthy mitochondria of a donor woman, to stop genetic diseases being passed from mother to child.
