Weather Talk

To mark our weather day, BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Poet Laureate Jo Roberts has written a poem about the weather.

Weather Talk

We talk about the weather as a way to pass the time
When conversations hits a lull, we say it’s turned out fine
Or isn’t it grey, or isn’t it cold, last summer was unusually wet
What happened to the heat wave? We don’t have snow like we used to get

There’s more thunderstorms than we had before, and the rain seems that much wetter
Heavy downpours last for hours, no brief gentle pitter patter
Fogs not a thick as it used to be, but then winters are more mild
Tornados have streaked across the skies, winds have been icy and wild

But when the sky’s eventually blue, without grey clouds to be seen
And the rain’s evaporated leaving the landscape fresh and clean
We’ll forget about the rainy days but still bemoan our lot
Say with all this constant sunshine the weather’s far too hot!
