By Rachel Neal

When I was a small child living in an old Victorian Mansion in Coventry, I remember my first sighting of something strange and it’s my first childhood memory.

While my parents were moving my new bed in to replace my cot, I could see a head under the cot.

A few years later in the same house, the same bedroom I awoke one night in the early hours and found a hand trying to grab me. The hand appeared in the gap between my wall and the bed and was blue, with veins pumping through the skin.

I froze for a few seconds in total shock. I was eight-years-old and have never been
so scared.

My first thought was to run to the kitchen and grab a knife, but I was too afraid to do that so I just sneaked into my Mum and Dad's bed.

In the morning they asked why I was in there and I explained but they said I was being silly. After that night I put all my cuddly toys by the side of the bed to cover the gap.

I never saw the hand again but it was not the last time I experienced fear.

A few months later I went upstairs to find my mum but she was not there, even though I had heard her wardrobe.

What I did see, however, was a white middle aged man, hiding behind the wardrobe.

I screamed and ran as fast as I could, I told my Mum and my mum said it was no one!

But I saw someone, he looked like any normal human being but no one knew of this man so he must have been a ghost.

For our first wedding anniversary in October, my husband had arranged for us to spend a night at Coombe Abbey.

We had a lovely meal in the Cloisters restaurant then returned to our bedchamber later in the evening. The bedchamber itself was very grand with a four poster bed as the room centrepiece.

Spooky Coombe Abbey
Is this a haunted tower at Coombe Abbey?

We both fell straight to sleep in the gorgeous bed, only to be awoken by the wind howling through the room, the drapes that hung around the four poster bed were billowing backwards and forwards.

All of this was happening in complete darkness. The bedside lamps were not working. My husband ran to the huge leaded windows presuming that they had been left open but they were firmly shut.

The next thing we heard our chamber door slam closed. Immediately the gusting wind stopped and the lamps switched on. My husband opened the door leading into the hotel corridor but there was not a soul around.

There was no obvious explanantion as to how such a forceful wind could occur in a room with no windows or doors open. We mentioned it to the hotel staff but they had received no other complaints that night!!

A lady perches on a bed at night
Who's the lady on the bed

When I was young, my sister had whooping cough and she was seriously ill. One night I woke up to see my mum sitting on the edge of her bed.

The next morning, I asked my mum why she was sitting on the end of the bed. She denied it and said I must have been dreaming.

Later, I was looking through pictures and I saw the woman who was so like my mum.

My mum said it was her sister who had died at an early age.

This was the woman who was sitting on my sister's bed while she was ill!
