I came down the Dog and Trumpet every week, and often ended up helping out behind the bar. "Cheers, I’ll just finish up in here and then I’ll help you." I yelled, "OK", and went out back to where all the stock was and sorted out enough to refill the fridges. A cold shiver ran down my back so I started humming to myself whilst I counted. I wandered out into the bar area with the first crate, a low layer of mist covered the floor. "Colin, you’ve left the smoke machine on," I yelled - no response. ![]() A ghostly figure makes her way across a An uneasy feeling crept across me, it felt too quiet. I went to go and put some music on. As I walked around the end of the bar, I glanced something out of the corner of my eye. I don’t know why but I froze to the spot. Making her way across the floor was a woman dressed in grey, I would have thought nothing of it but she was floating above the layer of mist. I was fixated and unable to move as she floated out of the building. Suddenly after a few seconds I felt I could move again and I raced over to where she went and ran into the alley leading out to the car park, but there was no one there. Running back in, I bumped straight into Colin and screamed. It took Colin a while - and a few Baileys - to find out what had happened. He hadn’t seen anything as he’d been in the toilet. I later discovered that there had been ghostly sightings before on the site but none recorded since it had been a jazz club. By Yvette ChamberlainIt was June and it was a sunny day at Whitley Abbey school, kids playing on the field like any other summer but this day was like no other! After four hours of hard work inside my friends Naomi, Natalie and I decided to go where we were not supposed to - into the woods. In the woods it was cold and dark but you could just still see the school’s outline as the sunlight crept though the trees. ![]() A ghostly figure floats above a river We walked towards a river and I looked to the bank opposite. There was a lady dressed in white, all alone. As we stared at her it was as if we had been paralysed and we could not look away. Then a bridge appeared out of nowhere. We had the urge to walk across it even though we knew not to. Naomi was trying to hold on the bridge but it was no good. "The lady has done something to us" cried Natalie. I was thinking in my head that we would be ok. "Natalie, can you hear that? said Naomi "THE BELL!" I started to feel as if it had broken the link between us and the lady. I ran towards her, all around me was white and I could still hear the bell. I could hear voices around me, people saying my name. I opened my eyes and there was no one but Naomi and Natalie. By Pete KostiukMichelle was slicing bread when the front door bell rang. She always used the same knife - one she had found in a draw when she, her husband Peter and their two children moved in to the house a couple of months previously. She placed the knife on the worktop to the right of the loaf of bread. At the door was Danny the teenage son of the couple who had previously lived in the house but had died mysteriously. Danny had gone to live with his grandparents around the corner in Oak Drive. "Can Jack and Scott come out to play?" asked Danny. "They're not here sweetheart- they've gone to stay with their Auntie" replied Michelle. Danny shrugged his shoulders and walked off. ![]() A ghostly message Michelle returned to the kitchen, which now seemed a lot colder than when she left it. She went to pick up the knife - it wasn't there. The bread had been pushed aside and in the space that was left, scrawled in to the worktop by a sharp implement, were the words 'UR NXT!!'. Shocked, Michelle glanced around the room. Sat at the breakfast bar was the foggy image of a young couple. They seemed to be talking and smiling at each other. Behind them stood a hooded figure, it's right hand raised high in the air. In the hand was a bread knife which Michelle recognised as her bread knife. Suddenly the knife swished through the air, firstly in to the back of the man and then the woman. The figure then turned to run out of the door. As it did so the hood slipped and revealed the face of a young teenage boy. "Danny?" enquired Michelle. By Emma ClarkeWhen we were first dating, my husband and I worked at the Belgrade Theatre, he as bar cellarman, myself as a barmaid (not a very good one, mind you). At closing time one night my husband was cleaning up when a tall man appeared and asked the time. We thought it odd because all theatre-goers had left at least an hour beforehand and we did not recognise him as a member of staff. ![]() A ghost in the Belgrade bar The moment my husband looked down at his watch, the man disappeared before our very eyes. I was standing behind the bar at the time, drying a glass (which I dropped in shock). The hairs on the back of my neck were on end and my husband says he felt icy cold, but surprisingly not at all scared. Later we spoke of this to the bar manager, who asked us to describe the man we had seen. He then said he recognised the description: many staff members and theatre goers had seen him in the past. He was said to be the theatre's first theatre director, who was one of the M1's first victims, and was often seen on the anniversary of his death asking to know the time. last updated: 18/04/2008 at 11:18 SEE ALSOYou are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Places > Weird Warwickshire > Your spooky ghost stories |
