The Band members: (Chico, Pedro, Raúl, José and Torres - short for Torremolinos) all stem from South America, and their live act does nothing to hide the anger and frustrations of a troublesome past. A statement from the band arrived thus: "Originally rubber farmers from Colombia, they hit upon hard times during the great rubber famine of 1971 and were forced to turn to petty crime. They first met while serving time in Bogotá penitentiary. "During their stint behind bars, they were encouraged to attend music therapy workshops as an outlet for their aggression. All learnt to play an instrument (apart from singer, Raúl who was ejected form the rehabilitation exercise, in part due to a remarkable lack of timing and co-ordination, and also because he is tone deaf). "Not only did they excel at music, they were talented sportsmen and were all picked for the prison football team. "While playing for the side in an international inmates tournament at the Bernabau Stadium in Barcelona, the team escaped through the changing room toilet window at half time. Since then, despite being continually on the run, the band has recorded 29 hit albums, the 30th, Pedro Chuff to be released soon. Today, they divide their time equally between avoiding the authorities and earning a few pesos playing their own unique brand of music in Cornish pubs." The Mosquitoes are coming soon to a pub or event near you. They are currently producing their new album and touring venues in Cornwall and London. For more details and gig dates, see their website. |
