Flambards Village Theme Park in Helston has set out to offer something for all members of the family. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and provides employment for many locals with around 220 people working there. Flambards started life in 1976 as the dream of Douglas Kingsford Hale. On 10th June 1976 the 'Cornwall Aircraft Park' opened. At its heart was the main Exhibition Hall, full of aviation memorabilia, engines and air frames. In 1979 'Flambards Victorian Village' was opened as a small exhibition of three period rooms. These proved popular and over the years the village has grown to nearly 60 shops, homes and traders.  | | A horse and carriage travel down the cobbled streets |
When you enter the village it really is like stepping back in time, the cobbled street has dim lighting and paints an authentic picture. You can almost taste the food in the shops and smell the beer in the pub. In 1984 the clocks were turned back 40 years for the next attraction to open at Flambards. The life size street features bomb damaged houses and shops. Special effects and original recordings authentically recreate the atmosphere of those perilous times. The exhibition brings back memories for those who lived through the Blitz. It helps youngsters appreciate how hard life would have been for people, living in fear of bombs and trying to get by on strict rations.  | | Young evacuees await a journey to their new homes |
Flambards has many activities outside which have been added over the years. The Hornet opened in the Spring of 1995. It takes parents and children around 412 metres of twists and turns. Last summer the Laser Show to celebrate the Millennium was replaced by the popular Creepy Crawly Widlife Show.
